Question July 29th.

Which toys/games/gadgets from your youth would you like to be able to get again?

I... never really got rid of them, or already got them again.

  • Transformers: Still have them. And the newer masterpiece series are amazing.
  • Rubik's cube: Own several similar cubes of various sizes.
  • LEGOs: Several boxfuls.
  • Old console games: Plenty of emulators around.
  • Comic books: still have cases of them.

I don't think I'm really missing anything that doesn't exist anymore. Sure you could argue that my old VHS tapes are pretty useless without a VCR, but there wasn't much content that cannot be found online today.

What counts as youth? I have no desire for my childhood stuff, I'm not a nostalgia guy.

But my original Peavy T-45 bass with a beautiful maple single-slab neck that was stolen when I was living in Los Angeles when I was maybe 20 or 21? Would like to have that back for both sentimental and practical reasons. Heck, I'd like to have my full rig (which was stolen a couple years later). I could rebuild the cabinet easily enough (any beefy 2x15 would work, and EV still makes the speakers), but I can't find the amp head, as it was an obscure one from the 70s: https://reverb.com/item/29981533-listing-update-kustom-kasino-concert-guitar-bass-amplifier-head-black-and-blue

I don't know if I want anything from my childhood. My memories of the items I played/used back then is enough for me. Thou it would be nice to have pristine gaming stuff. I don't think I'd sell em, but more or less just to go through them again. TSR Box Sets were awesome & going through them again, knowing that everything is still there would be a great experience again.

I *think* all my toys are in the attic at my parents place.  Mom mentions "my stuff" every now and then.  The problem is it would be very difficult for me to go up and get them (the hatch to the attic is right next to the stairwell and I'm really not good with any sort of heights, plus someone lighter than I am should probably be up there.....) , plus she also says something along the lines of "Oh it's all dusty up there, we'll get those down some other time.  But there doesn't appear to be an "other time".  Hmm, maybe I'll mention it again this weekend when I'm home, just in case one of the spry young nephews happens to visit over the summer and is looking for some work to do.

Mostly I'd like to know if my Slave 1 is up there, as well as the rest of my Star Wars toys.....

The last few years have been about getting things I always wanted when I was young. I've nearly filled out my dream list for 28mm minis (fantasy, scifi and historical). Now that I have a 3D printer I'm chugging out spaceships and 6mm tanks for other games. Hugely increased my Battletech collection over the last couple of years. There's a few things I wish I hadn't given away or destroyed when I was a kid but most of them can still be found although usually at exorbitant prices. My old board games I still have. AD&D books that I lost in basement flooding can be found as pdfs and I don't play it anyhow. Not into action figures any more and didn't have any real cool ones as a kid. Never had a video game console or computer until I was in my 20s and I still own the console and games and can play old games on my new computer. So I'm actually pretty content with what I have. Despite all the stress, financial difficulties, occasional depression and sense of impending doom my life's never been better. The only thing I wish I still had was close friends that got together and had fun like back then. I don't need a huge amount of socialising but hanging out with friends more that a couple days a year would be nice.

If young me had kept his Star Wars figures in the packaging instead of playing with (and eventually dismembering) them, I'd want them.

I'm good otherwise.

... well, I'd like to have my ability to bounce (take a tumble, roll up to my feet and be fine) back.

Don't really have a lot of toys, games or gadgets I miss, though.

As hot as it's been this summer, I can't believe no one has said the Original Super Soaker. Those things were amazing. If anyone knows of a modern water gun that works as well, please share!

My sister and I also had a Creepy Crawler machine. We bought it with Kool Aid points. (Remember those? Let's bring those back, too.) It was like an Easy Bake, but it had pewter moulds you poured liquid plastic into and baked. We had dollies and bugs. The bugs were the best--I wish we still had them, they'd make great cheap proxies for miniature games. The dollies' heads were too big and their necks too weak, so they were always becoming headless.

I'd like to go the opposite direction, and give 13 yr old me my 3d printers.

Seconded.

If I had a 3D printer, of course. Technicalities.

Cracker Jack prizes that were actual toys/prizes.

Whatever it is they call their stickers, or online code these days is a very poor substitute.

Hard to say, my parents had a bad habit of just throwing away my things without my permission, or giving them to others because I hadn't touched them for a few days - even things I had spent weeks or months saving up for with my own allowance.

Yeah, there's a number of reasons why I'm not the most talkative with them about things.

As for things I'd love from my childhood, I honestly can't think of much I would truly want back at this time.  About the only thing that comes to mind is my Garfield as well as Calvin and Hobbes books I spent so much time saving up to acquire...  That my parents threw away because "I was too old for that stuff"

Reading this post, kinda makes me wish I still had my Millennium Falcon & the figures for it.

What makes you think I don't still have 'em?

No, that's not in purple, and it's not meant to be. I still have my GI Joe figures (the 3 3/4" ones), my Star Wars stuff and my Legos. I'd kinda like to know what happened to my Micronauts stuff, though. (Who remembers those?)

About the only thing I can think of is the Exin Castillos castle building block set. (Google it. It was a pretty darn cool castle set that you could build in many different ways a la Lego.) THAT, I'd LOVE to get my hands on again.
