Here we go with another Nagendra.  Trying new colors each time I do them to try and have some fun with scales.  What I need to do on my next one is some kind of combination with yellow.  Something more challenging to work with to make it fun (or completely ruin it).

BATTLE REPORT!

Wins:

* Combo of golds and brown seemed to do alright.

*  Felt brave enough to use an oil wash this time.  It's frustrating because I'm always afraid it's going to ruin the work I put in, but at the same time, the results could be awesome.  The wash is on the scales, and the shield.  I tried it on the sword, but it didn't lay into the lettering strong enough.

*  The scales were good after the oil wash but needed a 'pop'. I went back and hit diagonally adjacent scales with a cream color.  Gave it a cool pattern without overwhelming the look.  I did my last one with an organic here or there approach.  This was more pattern driven.  Doing something like a diamond back would be a challenge worth doing.

Misses:

*  The sword did not come out as I had hoped.  It looks washed out and the runes on it are less than ideal.  Could use some fix ideas for this.

*  The shield also is missing...something.  I don't know what it is, but there's nothing really cool about it.

*  Eyes are so small on this model it's hard to do anything fun.  I made them black with yellow slits, but you can't really see them due to the size.  Anyone else struggle with eyes that are too small to really detail?  Or have a solution worth trying?

*  This one just didn't have the same pop effect I'd hoped for.  I'm not sure what's mising, but it's something.

Looks great as is, and exactly what you intended!

I think the only thing different you could do would be to make the shield and sword a different color.  Right now everything just kind of blends together because the primary color is all the same (what I meant by intended, I think you intended to have all the colors the same as a snake would likely want to blend in!).  But, on a miniature you have to be able to draw the eye into certain aspects of the miniature, and to do that I think a contrast color would help on this guy!

Since your colors thus far are yellow, the natural complimentary color is purple.  But, you could also use a triad, and go with subtle blues and reds. Maybe a nice light blue faded to white on the sword, with red on the runes to make them pop?  Something similar on the shield?

Not a big computer expert... but something like this?

      Still have to base.
Still feel like show needs more.

Anyone think the lines on the cape needs to be dark lined instead of white?

      Aaaaand here's #2 of 4.

She was a bit of a challenge coming up with her base.  I wanted it to look like the first scene that Cloud meets Aeris where she's in church ruins. I wanted to have color, but not too much.  Feels like it works.

      Got feedback? Lay it on!

I've been basing more of my minis and feeling like I'm actually completing them rather than just painting the model.

Here's Cloud from Final Fantasy 7. This is the first of 4.

I haven't posted a piece in the showoff area in a long while.  I mostly put my work in that paint club group, but this one was special and i wanted to share.

I had this figure staring at me and didn't have a theme in my mind.  Then it hit me that she for perfectly for this conflict in Ukraine.  She's holding her sword up as if the last line of defense.  I created the small base with the fallen shield representing the broken boundaries and fallen defenders.  But atop her hill that represents her country, she calls for aid and stands strong.  May they all stand strong.

Lady Vigilance and her call to arms.

I did this for my friend's xmas gift this year.  He's a big 80's kid, too.

      Battle report!

The challenge here was trying to make them all individual more than just their head bands.  I wanted to differ their greens a little between them. I also wanted them to look sewer-ridden and dirty, but still hold contrast.  Came out pretty nice.

      Highs:
*Donatello was easily my favorite that came out of this batch.  His purple was a great mix and stood out.
*Leo had a fun blue that was brighter than expected and gave me the idea to put their respective colors in more areas on them.
      *eyes were simple and effective.
*use of washes and lining came out good.
      * muscles all have strong definition (no pun)

      Lows:
*bandages look grungy as intended, but did get a little too bright in the edges.
*absolute fail in trying to base with green on airbrush.  I may need to resign myself to simply saying i suck with an airbrush.
*shell colors needed a little more, but i couldn't figure out what's going wrong.
*i wanted to push the greens. But needed more something to push the values.  Yellow? White?  What do you raise green with?
