Bones V Sleeper Hits!

Recommended Posts

So much value and interesting miniatures in this KS.  I only got Brinewind and fan favorites for the large expansions.

1.  Spikeshell Antipalidin - Fan Favorites.   I am so looking forward to painting this one.  He looks so cool to me.

2. Female Captain - Brinewind.  This was a super surprise for me.  I was planning to put this in the MEH pile until I saw it.  Great sculpt and I look forward to painting this captain.

3. Grave Kings 1080 - Core.  This one spoke to me.  So menacing.

4. Kid Heroes - Core.  These really look great and will be fun.

5. Elves - Core.    I wish I bought more of them.

I'm still gluing stuff together...  Painting this stuff is gonna take me all the way through my 30s 😆

Anyway, a couple minis I've grown to appreciate over my glue sprees the past few days

Fantasy Dinos

I was sort of excited for these, since they fit in well with the campaign I'm running, but man... they just exude personality when you have them in hand.  Somehow, these anthropomorphic dinosaurs just perfectly embody the archetypes they were designed for, in a way that human minis often don't even manage to accomplish.  And they're so cool- the wizard triceratops, a rogue raptor, a t-rex knight- all such cool choices!  (The daimyo dinos are neat too, but these really just hit it out of the park for me)

Arakoth

Man, I didn't get the appeal of Arakoth- pretty much just got him to fill out the set. I have a billion spiders at this point, of varying size, shape, and player-inducing arachnaphobia.  But Arakoth is the spider. This thing is huge, and at least in my experience, simply seeing it online doesn't do it justice.  I think my players would die if I put this guy on the table.  Players, not just their characters.

Fire Giant

Another one I really only got to be a completionist. And he's perhaps not as imposing as the storm giants, but he's just cool.  He's a thicc boi, that's for sure.

Crocasaurus

Such a cool design.  The base alone is neat, and the creature is cool, but what I think really does it for me is the swooping sort of pose it's in.  Definitely makes me think I should run an underwater campaign sometime.

Was pleasantly surprised with the size of Cerberus, and also the alternate hand on the cyclops.

The Greek set in general really exceeded my expectations, really like a lot of the models from there, Cerberus is probably my fave tho...

Not really Bones V, but the Reapercon boxes I ordered arrived at close to the same time, and one of the Reapercon boxes included a Bones Black Build-a-Pirate kit, which consisted of three generic pirate crew torsos, and a sprue of heads, and an assortment of arms.

This kit wasn't very flashy, it got only the barest of references in the box descriptions, and that's it.

But what a cool little idea for putting together batches of quick, nondescript, random, generic NPCs!

I hope Reaper does more of these Bones Black Build-an-Extra kits in various genres, especially stuff like generic townsfolk and other NPCs - I'd buy each one in an instant.

They're perfect for small batches of generic characters in similar costumes or uniforms, and given a small selection of arms that include tools in one hand, with only the most nondescript and common/improvised weapons in the other, I think most such kits would serve equally well as both civilians and mobs of armed goons for oddball warbands.

Something of the sort could easily be dropped into just about any themed expansion - such as build-a-viking for a Norse-themed expansion!

Anyway, the build-a-pirate thing is a fantastic idea, and since I don't think anyone else has mentioned it, but I can imagine lots of gamers finding uses for it, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a sleeper hit that could really add value to Reaper's Bones product line!

I loved the idea too. If you're into wargames or like to put a mob on the table, these little multi-part kits are fantastic. Also great for conversions.  I know not everyone likes to glue and assemble, but there are plenty of single piece figures already.   I'd like to see some modern/pulp NPCS in this format, goons with guns, sailors (not pirates) with various weapons, star ship crew with different equipment, etc.
