I did not even get a ship but I am such a “ship nerd” I can tell you which mast goes where, which way they point, what the ships scale dimensions are…

Ships are my thing. Ask away.

Where does the steering wheel go? I assume the Quarter Deck?

Hi All!

I'm finally getting my hands on my Bones 5!  I'll be starting off with this lovely dragon fellow.  I've never done anything larger than a regular mini before and I've never done a dragon either.  So this will be new and exciting experience.

As you can see, his legs are cricket.  I can't help imagining him waterskiing with his feet like that and those dragon arms holding on to a rope! lol  Anyways!  I've read that even with bigger figures like this, boiling parts is the ultimate solution.  So, I'm going to go boil some dragon legs right now.  Wish me luck!  I'll post an update here in the near future.

Cheers!

Alright, well, that just went super smooth.  I thought there would be some back and forth between the boiling and the ice water.  But after boiling legs for the first time, they kind of just adjusted themselves.  I went ahead and boiled other body parts, too.  I believe they sort of unfolded to some better shapes, not sure, might be just my imagination.

I thought there would be more to it, but, I guess, that's about it!  If you're putting together this dragon, just boil the limbs and, according to my experience, they should just adjust themselves.

Cheers!

My cart in the Brinewind extras feels like it is missing pieces in addition to being badly warped.. anyone assemble theirs yet?  My wheels dont fit the holes on the bottom, and I only got one axle looking piece that is way too long  to fit anywhere.. the yoke holes are not lined up.. alignment issues I can fix, but I feel like maybe I'm short on stuff

Boil will help with alignment problems.  My Mamatour was way off in alignment for it's base.  Those are hefty legs, A placed it in a pot and poured boiling water over it.  It went right in.  The extended time in hot containers warped many pieces.

I did I think.

Assuming this is the correct cart.

The two axles are the same, but I had to clean extra flash from the holes on the underside to make it go through. Same with the yoke. The wheels have a notch so they have to be turned properly to fit the axle. The seat I had to heat and then glue while it was still flexible.

I'm definitely missing an axle then and maybe the seat.  Thanks

I haven't unbagged and glued everything yet -- feels like there's a lot more assembly necessary this time around versus some previous Bones I bought in on -- but I haven't seen any dice in the mix.  Wasn't that one of the unlocked stretch goals?  Not like I really need more, and maybe they were bagged with some figs.  Anyone else find theirs?

Yes. Sophie's lucky dice. Should be in a see through plastic box separate from the big core container.

Factory packing mistake resulted in most  all Core boxes not including the dice.  Contact [email protected] to be put on the list to have the dice sent to you, but only if you want them.  Other SOD items are going out ASAP, but the dice are expected to take longer.

The ones who got dice were outside the box.

I had picked up a Homidic Heat Gun off Amazon to help with my 3D printing.  I found it super useful for assembly and straightening of Bones V.  Used it and a iced water bottle to fix everything this time around.

They're only about $12 and really worth it as a miniature hobbyist to me.

Yog-Sothoth, unsurprisingly, is a bit of a nightmare to assemble. I eventually had to resort to using rubber bands to hold bits together while the glue dried, since the chunkier pieces didn't tend to stay put long enough, and my hands were getting tired trying to keep them squished together sufficiently.

I've just got the tentacles left, then I get to try and attach the whole thing to the pillar. I am not comforted by the fact that I know eventually I'll need to half pull it apart again when I have time to paint it.

Update: Fully assembled, and looking delightfully horrifying. I'd highly recommend assembling all of the creature befor attaching it to the post. It slides up through a couple of tentacles that are sculpted curled to hold it, and once on they actually create a surprisingly sturdy grip.

It's so tentacle-y and bug eyed and creepy and I love it.

I'd be interested in knowing if the fix 'sticks', or reverts to the previous warped state after a while.

This one is taking me forever!

I'm at a standstill with doing this eyeball. I also can't tell if i need to change the weird yellow i did around the eye.  I'm also struggling with the pumpkin lights in the heads.

Overall I'm struggling and need suggestions.

      Here's where I'm at:

I challenged myself to knocking one out in 40 minutes.  This was another pick from paint club, so I was wanting to get it done and get to another.

This little guy was fun to push with wet blending. It was hard for me to highlight only up to the pink, and man that stuff is a one coat and done!  Gotta really thin it out or it'll be cotton candy.

I ended up sticking to a 5 color rule.  My 5th color was the black brown on the nails.  It's not in the palette photo, but i did have some left on my palette from the orc chief earlier today.

I like the little belly and inner leg transition.  Wet blending for the win.

Really this would be more adorable than ominous.  Guess he'll just have to deal with the other gargoyles talking about him being the flamboyant one of the group.  "There goes Gorag again..."

Still cooking with gas this week.  Got another painted.
I still need to finish the back of his staff, paint his shoes, and base him, but major parts are done.

      BATTLE REPORT!

Nothing major learned this time.  Still getting my balance of colors and layering carefully.

      Wins:
      * green skin was fun and came out strong.  May need to go a wee bit lighter on the highlights.
      * fur and skin on reverse side of cape was fun.  Tried to give it a tanned look. I think it may have come out a bit jaundice colored...oh well. Still like it.
      *  wood grain on staff could be improved, but happy with it.
      *  very carefully did the skulls.  Took about 5 or 6 passes at them, but they came out nicely shaded and subtle.
      *  thank goodness i didn't have to do eyes.  His brow did the work for me.

      Misses:
      * red color on the skull staff...meh.
      *  speaking of skull staff i went too far when i painted red and covered the jaw bone of the skull.  Whoops. Painted on.   Who'd notice if i didn't tell you?  Oh,wait.  Dang it.
      *  forgot to go back and highlight and contrast the teeth more.

I need a good base for this dude.  He came out strong.  I mean, not physically because he's an orc, i mean the paint job.

      Got suggestions?

      Here's the painting process.

One the past few weeks I have been working on the Zombie Dwarf Thanes from the Bones 5 "The Dwarf King's Crypt" Encounter set.   I ordered two of these Encounter sets, as I wanted doubles of some of the scenario pieces, as well as double the 3 zombie figures that came with the Encounter.

To help make their appearance seem more varied, I swapped a hand between Thane #1 and Thane #2.   I also trimmed the circlets off some of their heads to try and make them look more like average Dwarves.

(Edit: For some reason he photos uploaded out of order, so the backs of Thane #2 are shown after Thane #3 fronts, and the backs of Thane #3 are shown after Thane 2's fronts.)

I was focused on speed, not detail.  This was trying to work them with as few colors as possible.  The more I look at them, the more they look lik ea value sketch more than a painted model, but I'm looking for where to go with them.

Another thing I need to know, is what do you all do with eye sockets?  How do you paint them or what do you do with them?

For the woman zombie, I used an ink pen and am kind of miffed that it turned out than other eyes I put way more time into.  I know I can use this in conjunction with painting, but just dotting it came out pretty believable.  I think some of that is the fact it's a dead stare, so of course, just a wash and a dot does fine.  I would be curious to know how any one else uses the pens and paint in combo.
