Mad Jack
If anybody was missing two of the ballistas from their Bones V order, they'll be in whichever Box I'm in, lol. 3

YronimosW
Not sure exactly what I might do yet, but it sounds like a fun way to spread the hard-plastic wargame miniatures sprue love around (everyone needs a stash of these bits!), and also share some of the Bones from my Pile of Shame. I'll check and see if my sister has some stuff from the Big Box of Stuff I sent her that she might prefer sharing., too. I can't wait! :) Edited August 26, 2021 by YronimosW
Kangaroorex
looking forward to this! there were a lot of 1s and 2s that i liked in the expansions but it just wasnt enough to get the entire expansion and even the expansion i got had a lot of stuff i wasnt really excited about. Hopefully i will be able to correct some of that imbalance 🙂
Mad Jack
So here's a question for y'all... It doesn't seem, at least from my perspective over the last handful of rounds, that old lead is all that popular... Since I started way back in the beginning I think I've gotten the same box back a couple rounds later maybe twice now and recognized a lot of the same stuff. In general, are there only a few of us still interested in the old lead? Is it because some of it is broken or missing pieces? (I've got a bunch of old Grenadier and some Ral Partha Chaos Warriors that I'd like to toss in the box, but if space concerns pop up they're definitely going to be the first thing bumped to save space.)
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted August 31, 2021 Author Moderator Share Posted August 31, 2021 I've noticed the same thing, and come to the same conclusion. Part of the unpopularity might be the broken/missing pieces aspect, part of it is probably the material itself, and part of it may be scale creep. I'm still interested in old lead stuff, but in general, I think us old lead-heads are probably in the minority.
Marc
I would not want lead personally, for whatever that is worth.

Yes, I'd say outside of some particular Bones figures most broken stuff is mostly useless no matter what the material. That being said, I like old lead (when it's unbroken) and I think @Rob Dean does as well. Like most everything in the box, it's all a matter of proportion of content. As long as it's not taking up a large portion of a box, I see no problem including a dozen or so lead figures. An additional point, for me, is "is this old minis/lead that I haven't actually seen time and again"? - like, there's lots of the old Grenadier and Ral Partha fantasy lead wandering about (not just in the Box o Goodwill) - but not so much the weirder lines, or such. Part of that is collectability - TSR Top Secret or Star Frontiers minis are actually worth money! (in addition to being much harder to find in general), part of it is just rarity. But that's a highly individual thing - what is common as rocks for one person might be "I have never seen this before in my life" for another - and the scale creep can be a huge (heh) problem as well for some people (others don't care - I've seen people's tables with 25, 28, 32, and 40mm scale minis all intermingled without a care).

That's exactly why I've passed by any of the lead figs I've seen in a BoGW. I've considered getting rid of my own lead, too. Perhaps we should consider a BoGW Lead Heads edition? I have enough to fill a small flat rate box myself. 1 hour ago, Chris Palmer said: As long as it's not taking up a large portion of a box, I see no problem including a dozen or so lead figures. Inarah
I've seen very little actual lead in my boxes. Sure, there's older metal, stuff from Grenadier and Ral Partha, but remember that for the most part they stopped using solid lead in '93. Generally, unless you're creating a lot of dust from sanding, and then snorting it, the older metals aren't harmful to handle. If you are a box curator and are seeing items come back time and time again, you can remove/recycle/replace contents. 3d printed stuff is welcome, many folks don't have a printer yet and would like to see the new tech, but it should be in good shape, this is not the place to dump your failed prints. If your resin is delicate, please wrap it in something to protect it from snapping. As we've seen, USPS WILL abuse the boxes. I know we just had Bones V ship, but please keep realistic expectations. People aren't likely to be sending you an entire core set or expansion in the BOGW this time around. Remember to keep the box moving. We all know Life Happens. There are people downstream from you waiting for a little joy in their lives. If something happens and you know you can't deal with the box when your turn comes, message the coordinator. You can be dropped or moved down in the list easily enough. Have fun! 7
YronimosW
I mostly prefer plastic just for being light, easy to customize, inexpensive, and durable, for the purpose of gaming miniatures, so I don't normally go looking for metal miniatures. That said, there is something kind of cool about some of the old metal miniatures, and if something catches my eye, I might scoop it up. Especially if it's a retro sci-fi or other non-fantasy miniature, or if it just hits my sense of nostalgia the right way. Broken metal minis might be less desirable, but I don't think I could rule it out, and, after all, there can be some sense of satisfaction in rehabilitating a cool old classic miniature. I have no real preference per se for or against lead vs. lead-free "white metal", but I might be slightly more inclined to like older metal, than newer. Variety is definitely good, and speaking of variety, I don't think I can really bring myself to part with any non-fantasy minis this time, so whatever I send out will likely be mostly or all fantasy. But I'm hoping everyone else has a variety of genres to contribute, I love the non-fantasy stuff! Edited August 31, 2021 by YronimosW
