Poilu_1914
Might be an old guy thing but the majority of my minis are metal. I like the feel and weight of it and find it easier to prep. My biggest problem with Bones is trying to prep them without slicing them up (gotten a bit shaky in the hands); I've had a couple accidents and ruined the minis so try to minimize the X-Acto work. Bones Black and USA I found is much easier to work with though than the soft original Bones. I'm eyeing a good mix of metal/plastic/fantasy/sci-fi for the box.
Goddesstio
I don't mind metal, but if anything is broken, I won't take it. I absolutely HATE trying to pin things, and I'm not good at customization, so I mostly want figures that are ready to paint. With so many options on new cool unbroken figures, I just generally wouldn't want the effort of taking anything I had to fix up, but that's just me personally. Others with more experience may be far braver than I!
Rob Dean
Well, as @Chris Palmer says, I’m an old lead-head, so I don’t mind, but, on the other hand, I already have a lot of old lead, so don’t need too much more…
Lidless Eye
Personally I like bitz a lot, I know not everyone does. The Bones 3 Weapon Sprues seemed to be a very popular addition (even in parts) the last few boxes.
haldir
I don't mind lead minis, but I generally will just set them aside & look elsewhere. Mainly look for my game needs but I have taken a hey metal mini out for the RCON melt table. (Warmachine jack)

Poilu_1914
So still kind of new to all this, what exactly is the RCON melt table?
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted September 6, 2021 Author Moderator Share Posted September 6, 2021 RCON=Reapercon, the big hobby/painting/gaming convention that Reaper hosts. (It was this past weekend) At Reapercon, they have a table where you can bring in all your old/broken/unwanted/whatever miniatures to. They weigh your contribution, and you have that much 'credit' in ounces of metal to use to either pull different stuff off of the table ( I got a complete metal Gauth figure from the table a few years ago), or to use to go to the factory and get bits, or full figures. Whatever is on the table at the end of the con gets melted down and reused to make new figures. 3

Dilvish the Deliverer
I think this may be the first time I missed out on sign ups. Have fun everyone! I may have things organized in time for the next one. 2

Part of the unpopularity might be the broken/missing pieces aspect, part of it is probably the material itself, and part of it may be scale creep. I'm still interested in old lead stuff, but in general, I think us old lead-heads are probably in the minority. Speak for yourself (and me)--I love finding old metal. Partly nostalgia, partly increasing scarcity.

I dropped 14 pounds of metal on the table the first day, more than half of it being Warmachine/Hordes stuff.

That said, I realize that somethings don't come that way. We use the smaller 25mm lead figures to represent the NPCs, torch bearers and other less important characters. It makes it easier for people to see where the players are and the big monster vs. the extras. I also use 15 and 10mm lead minis for doing some dioramas when i am trying to show a larger difference in scale. T'Raukzul is much more impressive when he's facing 10mm Zulus! OTOH, I can understand why you would not want to handle the 5+ pound figure of the larger dragons (I still get a sore wrist every time I pass by T'Raukzul ) and plastics and resins make for much larger miniatures. that said I will always take metal to plastic or resin just because I like the tactile feel of the metal. So make sure you put me in a box that likes both!
