Seeking color inspiration

I am painting Lysette the Druid...a pretty little elf. Or at least I would like very much to paint her.

I already did the base ( I just discovered basing and it is so much fun!) the base under Lysette is grass (sort of an olive green color). One corner however is water instead of grass..blue water :poke: blended so that it goes from dark blue to white where it meets the grass.

However now I want to paint the mini and i'm not sure where to start so I end up with a figure that matches the base I created without just painting her green and blue the same colors as my base...

any suggestions..should I keep one base color (green or blue) and then ad in another color? What color would go well??

I hate this part...I'm not good at picking colors..and she will sit there for weeks untill I decide if i dont get some help

At the very least, you could have the dark olive color on your base be your shade color for whatever green you choose to use as your basecoat color, and it would tie in nicely, no matter the highlight.

The same could also apply if you chose to have it tie in with the color of the water.

You could paint her with a more fall foliage color scheme keeping the style natural color based, but not green and blue. Browns with yellow, red and orange tones. Think of a New England maple tree in early October.

Just ignore my cursing as those bloody leaves fall on my lawn and then I have to rake them up. ::P:

If you go to Cool Mini Or Not and search on Lysette, you will find a lot of inspiration. There are many beautiful versions of that model painted there.

You could always use the contrasting colors, but in muted shades so they look more earthy. Deep purples or rich reds would offset the green and blue of the base. Maybe a little gold here and there.

I often have trouble desiding on which colors to choose as well. I would often try to picture how the Person/creature/thing lives and go from there.

As for the colors for your fig, well here are my suggestions..

Druids like the outdoors...allot. I would make her skin really tan. Acception to this would be around the joints (knees and elbows) where I would make them a light brown as if they had been kneeling/sleeping in the wild.

I would also think that they would not get to town a whole lot so the colors I would choose would be dingy. For example.. If I where to make her dress say orange, I would choose Reapers Burnt Orange as the brightest color for her dress. Maybe even reserve this as the highlight part only..choose a darker orange as the base.

As for the colors for straps and the like I would choose Rudy Flesh or a Tan color.

I know I didn't give you actual color suggestions but I hope this helps..

Dargrin..

This may be a bit of a cheat...and may only give you a great paint scheme for the trim on your house ::D:, but I've used this colortool to get an idea of some interesting possibilities.

As they say, "your mileage may vary".

A color wheel and some sound color theory is probably your best bet (see Jen's or Jenova's site for some really nice articles).

Regardless, it's a fun tool to diddle around with.

Thanks

When I'm stuck for choosing colours, I just close my eyes and reach into my paint box.

Then try to work with whatever colour I pick.

Adds a little fun to things.

But I feel ya'

I've been trying to do Lysette for months now, and haven't come up with a colour scheme that I like.

And I love that colour tool that awong put up!

*saves it to her favorites*

If you have photoshop or something similar, you can try a trick that I do sometimes. Grab a pic of the mini and paint it on the computer :) Tinting various areas of the picture can give you an idea of color schemes and it helps get a plan set up when you're trying to paint blind. Best of all you don't waste time painting on the mini just trying something you end up not liking in the first place. :)

As for an immediate color suggestion...what about whites and golds?
