Question for September 10:

What's your favorite mini that you own? Painted or not. Pics welcome, links only if it's to the Reaper store.

Generally, it'd be whatever I just finished. I do have a great fondness for my version of Warduke, though.

Quest for Saturday and Sunday, Sept 11+12

Try something new this weekend, and tell us how it went.

My wife and I have gotten involved in a D&D 5E campaign. I'm enjoying it, (especially since I get to be a player, for a change), but I still think I prefer 2nd ed.

It was going to be something food oriented (I now forget what) but I decided I didn’t have time.

However, all the Dean boys get together for a weekly Discord chat, and several of us are sometimes painting while we talk.  This week I decided that I would get a start on a delayed project, a little batch of 8 Strelets 1/72 scale plastic medieval spearmen, which are not the best castings.  I had decided that they were going to be a group test of the Zorn palette, and then, about midway throught the chat, I realized that was my something new that I could mention.

So, quick version, a Zorn palette is a limited 4 color selection, a bright red, an ochre yellow, a bluish black, and white.  I used these Reaper colors:

Caucasian skin is basically ochre and red, greens are limited to olives from ochre and black, and blues are limited to bluish greys from black and white.

I’m also not usually an NMM painter, but metal is limited on these guys, so I doubt that it will make much difference by the time the finished stand of 8 shows up in a Show Off thread.

Tried a few new things this weekend. First thing was making pancakes with chocolate chips yesterday. My wife really liked them. I thought they were a bit over the top on the chocolate flavor. Maybe I'll add some raspberries next time for something tart to go with the chocolate.

Last night I tried a new mix of red paints for zombie gore on a mini. This is Spattered Crimson, Rusty Red and Fresh Blood. All from Reaper.

Not too terrible, but I think I like my old gore combo slightly better.

And this afternoon I sampled a few new beers at a beer and donut pairing thing going on at a local brewery. I really like several of the beers I tried. The sole exception being a coffee cream ale. It was solid for the style, but I've never cared for the weird mouth feel of cream ales.

So I didn’t see this until the weekend was over. So I had to think back if I had accidentally tried anything new.

+++ insert sound effects of wood burning here +++

The only new thing involved ordering groceries from Wal*mart. Those miserable cyber monkeys that build their ordering interface changed it all up under the guise of making it new and improved.

<_<

They took away the feature where the customer gets to decide what the second choice item will be if they are out of something, they took an item off my previous purchased list and I could not find it at all, it looked all different, and they moved things around….

Summing up: it went poorly.

I fed a squirrel some sweetcorn (It was curious enough about what we were feeding the ducks that it came close enough to the housemate and I that I probably could've tried hand-feeding it, but didn't want to risk my fingers), also brought a bottle of Kombucha to try on the way home, it was surprisingly tasty.

Question for Sept. 13th

For the  adults: When did you feel like you were a 'grown-up'?

For the non-adults: When do you think you'll feel like a 'grown-up'?

Probably the first time I had to pay rent and utility bills.

Not only was I working my butt off in a job I didn't like, but suddenly I didn't even get to keep most of the money I made? Adulthood is such a scam.

🤣 I don’t and I never have. I feel like I’m faking it the whole time. There’s always a part of me that like, this is all some crazy dream and I’ll wake up soon.

Hello there imposter syndrome!

Umm, I played a new opponent in a game of Star Wars Legion.  A PhD student from France who just got here.

It went great!  I got creamed in 4 turns. (I usually play a pretty "just ok" army when playing someone new, to figure out what there level is. He's a very solid play with a well sorted army.  I'd be comfortable throwing anything I've got against him.)

Hmmm. Probably around when I bought the first house.

But there are still lots of days when I don't really feel like one....

I’ll post a proper show-off later, after I’ve hit them with the final varnish coat, but here are the 8 militia spearmen of Zorn…

I think I started felling like a "grown up" the first time a family member came to me looking for help with some financial problems. I've tried nearly everything I can to shake that feeling over the years but it keeps getting worse and worse. I'm not going to accept that though, I'm going to keep trying to feel like a kid no matter what adult crap I have to deal with.

I suppose that when I moved away from home for my first job and got my first apartment, I was more-or-less grown up, a few weeks after my 21st birthday.   On the other hand, at 60, I still like peanut butter and jelly, go for bike rides, and play with toy soldiers, so, internally, I’m not sure I’ve reached that point yet.:poke:

I think when I was 17 and signed my first student loan papers. That would have been the first time I was responsible for something other than myself.
