Getting To Know You, September

I think last night might be my most memorable introduction of myself. I was painting after getting the boy down, and I heard the new downstairs neighbors out on the patio having a dinner party. No biggie. A little bit later the tone of the chatter changed, and something caught my ear. Someone was doing a voice. I stepped out onto my balcony and looked down. The food was all put away, and everyone had their screens out. I couldn't make out most of what was being said, but then...

"Make a sleight of hands check" followed by the clatter of dice.

They were playing D&D!

I went inside, and dithered a moment about how to get their attention. I grabbed a d20 and went back out on the balcony. When there was a lull, I said "Hi neighbors" and tossed the d20 down toward them.

Down 3 stories toward them.

"What the.... Did he just toss a dice down?"

"Yeah, and it's a nat 20!"  (I swear to all the gods I'm not making this up)

"Hey, you play D&D?!?"

"Yeah I do!" I replied.

"Can he join us? Do you want to come play?"

Obviously, I could, and did. And that's how I met my new neighbors and their friends last night.

The view from the 5th floor Right before I tossed the d20.

And a few minutes later at the table!

Playing d&d, while on a grid... But not aligning anything to the grid....

You must specify, as there have been a number of Enterprise's!

NC1701 A comes in third, E comes in forth.  Andromeda if fifth and NSEA Protector is sixth. The one from Enterprise is down around the Millennium Falcon, IE not liked much at all.

Question for Sept 16:

What is the most memorable way you've introduced yourself/been introduced/introduced someone else?

A day late, but I will admit that my favorite is still, after many years, a college incident in which I went to meet a lab partner, and was ushered in with a cry of “Hey, Zirka, it’s the guy with the voice!”.

I take a certain amount of pleasure in having been gifted with a radio announcer/podcaster voice.  Unfortunately, I haven’t found a podcast topic that suits yet…

Question for September 17th

What's your favorite space ship?

I’m going to go real here, and say “Apollo 11” …

Oh, jeez, talk about a hard question......

I have trouble narrowing it down to favorite ship in a given universe....

So, any of the below on a given day.  I'm sure there are others that have slipped my mind.....

Rocinante - The Expanse

Slave 1 - Star Wars

USS Defiant - Star Trek

Serenity - Firefly

Battlestar Galactica - 2004 remake version

Eagle Transporter - Space 1999

SDF-1 - Robotech/Macross

Jasper's right - it's such a hard question. So many different ones to like for so many different reasons.  Including many I've designed myself for my own settings, such as the Centuari Runner or Neverastria III.

I guess if you're going to make me pick one from widely known sci-fi settings, I have to go with the Millennium Falcon.

The Apollo 11 spacecraft (Columbia Command Module + Eagle Lunar Module) closely followed by TV's USS Enterprise NCC - 1701 (it doesn't get the A designator until the movies).
