Question for Sept. 29th

What is your favorite quote? What's it from? Why is it your favorite?

"Sorry. It's my job."

From a Datamation Goff cartoon, A man with a gun is behind a desk that has a nameplate of Trouble Shooter.  Before the desk is a man with a bullet hole lying on the floor.

It is my favorite because in my job I was known as a great trouble shooter.  For some reason they would not give me that title at work.

Watching the Critical Role games, and hearing the DM Matt Mercer say "How do you want to do this?" as someone gets the killing blow on the BBEG.

It is followed by much excitement from the players as they get to describe in detail, and sometimes with extra cinematic flair, their final action that granted them victory.

I collect quotes. It's hard for me to pin down a favourite because it often changes depending on how I feel at that time. So I'll share one of the many that I love.

Welcome, stranger. The paths are treacherous today. - Qanuc Saying (Tad Williams - The Dragonbone Chair)

Yep, the worse case is you do what you would normally do before your surgery.
I'm happy to get the extra coaching/motivating before hand, and hopefully it will help with my recovery...whenever I get to having the surgery.  So much waiting.....

I'm surprised a study is needed, though I suppose the data must be quantified....  I've had a few surgeries and it's definitely better to be in top shape (or as near as you can manage) before hand because recovery can be broccoli.    I lost over 10lbs of muscle due to enforced inactivity after the last one.  Being on a nutrition plan before surgery is one less thing to cope with afterward.

They are many and varied, but I'll take one from Heinlein today:  "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea."

A few favorites, since I've been reading lately:

"The movie of my life must be really low budget." - Dead Beat, Jim Butcher. It's a fitting description.

"What is the point of having free will if one cannot occasionally spit in the eye of destiny?" - Dead Beat, Jim Butcher. Also very fitting for life.

"Oh, what would you like on your vegetarian pizza?"

"Dead pigs and cows."

She glanced up at me and wrinkled her nose.

"They're vegetarians," I said defensively.

- Blood Rites, Jim Butcher

That last one is just hilarious.

Yeah, I expect they are looking to get a program funded to make prehabilitation standard for these types of surgeries.  So, of course, they need to "quantify" it first.

Just found this by Winston Churchill:

"You make a living by what you earn, you make a life by what you give."

Winston Spencer Churchill is a constant mine of excellent quotes.

Two of my favourites:

"I practice all my spontaneous remarks for weeks beforehand."

"The best investment I know of is putting milk into babies."

The current state of knowledge can be summarized thus: in the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

From Terry Pratchett - Lords and Ladies

"For us, there is only the trying. The rest is not our business."

From T.S. Elliot - East Coker

That one comes to mind just now, because I need to remember it's truth.
