Question for September 3:

What is something the place that's you're from (originally, currently, or something in between) is known for? Is it fair/accurate?

Rain and midges

If you ever feel the need to experience the horror firsthand, then for goodness sake buy some of this.

Really random, but it's the best thing that I've ever found that stops bug bites. Midges don't actually bite me(that's my superpower!) but horseflies and their ilk absolutely love me. I know someone that used to be a commando that swears by it. The thought of a bunch of big, scary men spraying a skin softener to themselves before going out on a mission never fails to get a chuckle from me.

Casually related to this, I was trying to explain what states fell into which U.S. regions (such as the "Midwest") to my wife.  My first explanation went something like:  The South is mostly the traitor states, the Northeast is geographically accurate, the Midwest is all the states that grow corn, and the West is everything else.  That didn't help much, so then I had to start listing states by name.  Her first reaction to all of it was "How in the elf is Ohio considered a midwestern state?"

(Presumably because the Midwest pulled the short straw in a contest with the Northeast and the South.) ::P:

Ohio was in the Colonial West.  The British ceded it to the Indians after the French and Indian War.  Americans had a different notion.  It was part of the original frontier.  The West is the last frontier and the Mid West is the first frontier.  The New England states are part of the original colonies.  The South are the Traitor states.

And we do grow corn.

I never appreciated just how exponentially worse the midge swarms in Scotland were compared to England, until I spent a summer backpacking Lands End to John O'Groats several years ago.  I still itch just thinking about it!

For those who have never experienced the horror of the Highland midge, this is a great video (not mine) that will make your skin crawl,

My dad would say "Kill a midge and a thousand comes to it's funeral"

I've got so many midge stories, but my favorite is the when a group of us were doing the West Highland Way and a friend left their tent partially open after setting it up. We told him that was a mistake but he knew better than us! It looked like his tent was filled with angry, animated black pepper when he went back to sleep that night. He ended up sleeping outside.

Question/Quest for September 4 & 5:

You have your own personal chef for the weekend. What are they making for you?

Mass quantities of Asian cuisine. Pho, bibimbap, sushi and Chinese dishes (Americanized, because my tastebuds don't know any other kind). And dumplings, lots of dumplings.

Only one personal chef? heck, I'd turn my place into an entire Iron Chef challenge and watch them scurry around frantically to make their signature dish, only to eat their food in a critical manner in front of them.

Personal chef?  Likely whatever my wife wanted.  She's much better at coming up with something interesting.
Actually eating?  Not my picture, but it's what I had for lunch

That would be a donair poutine, a fine fusion of Halifax donair and Montreal poutine, about as eastern Canadian as you can get without eating it with a hockey stick.

Wow, I didn't know that they did munchy boxes in Canada ::D: Ours are slightly bigger though.

I'm already married to my personal chef, and count my blessings every day.

Todays meal will be jerked venison:

Zucchini parm melts today. Not sure what we're doing the rest of the weekend/week since I'll be away from home for a few days.

But.. I am the chef already, lol...  Well, the cook anyways.  Okay, fine.  If I do have one, I have one for the duration of my previous weekend, because I like the idea of someone cooking for me for three months!

Question for September 2:

What was the last artist* you directly financially supported? And what did you pay for?

*painter, sculptor, musician, author... Feel free to define artist however you wish. Buying from Reaper (for example) doesn't count as directly.

Took a while, but I realised I actually have an answer for this one. Sebastian Archer, since he sculpts a decent chunk of the Twisted range himself I think that counts.

The last mini I picked up that was his is Long Ma:-

Who I really need to paint up one day.

Not sure, getting them to make something I like seems like a waste, since I could probably make it myself, but getting them to make something new, fancy and exotic could also be a waste because I might not like it.

Didn't manage to take a picture of yesterdays Curried Sweetcorn Soup, will have to try and remember to take one of tonight's Homemade Chicken Nuggets.

I was born and raised in Rotterdam ( The Netherlands)

For years the harbour was the largest in the World, nowadays it's the largest in Europe.

Also: The Euromast.
