Question/Quest for September 4 & 5:

You have your own personal chef for the weekend. What are they making for you?

Share a picture of some food you're actually having!

I'd get one of the chefs from a certain cafe near where I was born and bred. They write their menu on the chalkboard wall and when they've ran out they just wipe the board clean and write up a new delicious meal to take it's place. It's the first place I go when going home as the food is always amazing.

Also, if you get really lucky then you can get the table with this view.

I'll take one of everything, please. 🙂 Will that get me the table with the view?

Took a while, but I realised I actually have an answer for this one. Sebastian Archer, since he sculpts a decent chunk of the Twisted range himself I think that counts.

The last mini I picked up that was his is Long Ma:-

Question for September 2:

What was the last artist* you directly financially supported? And what did you pay for?

*painter, sculptor, musician, author... Feel free to define artist however you wish. Buying from Reaper (for example) doesn't count as directly.

Most of the artists I've supported were through Kickstarter. And then there are cases like Tom Meier and Tre Manor which I kind of supported directly by them shutting down their businesses.

Thinking back, I did buy some earrings for my SIL's birthday during an arts and crafts fair. So a particular jeweler got supported.

Question for September 3:

What is something the place that's you're from (originally, currently, or something in between) is known for? Is it fair/accurate?

As a toddler I did live in Canada's capital.

And I lived nearly thirty years in a town that had the biggest train yard between Montreal and Halifax. If you worked on the railroad, you knew about that town, otherwise, it just happened to be next to the last bridges linking the north and south shore of the Saint-Lawrence river.

Other places I've lived:

  • Former host of Expo '67 and '76 Olympics.
  • Arguably the oldest city in Canada.

Currently, I live in a place known for its blueberries,a big lake, and aluminum plants (smelters, refineries).

Turns out what I've been eating for the past four days is the correct answer: Chinese food!

Since I was away on my first trip to see the family in 18 months, and we were celebrating my 50th birthday, Chinese takeout was on the menu. We had plenty of tasty leftovers.

Question for September 1:

Today, many of you will be heading out to ReaperCon (have fun and be safe!)

For those who are going, what are you most looking forward to?

For those who aren't, what are you looking forward to this month?

Nope, not going.

The weather has turned for the better so here's to a whole month of that.

I usually support half a dozen Patreons or so.  Some are just one person.

Where I used to live had the "smallest county seat in the state" and where I live now had the "oldest county fair" in the state.  I assume they are true statements but I've never checked up on them.

I don't know about a personal chef, but someone did cook for me this weekend.  I got chicken kabobs on the grill.

Question for September 6:

Labor day! The history of the labor movement in the USA is interesting, to say the least, as is the reason we don't celebrate it on international workers day (May 1st). Are you/have you ever been as member of a union? Have you ever participated in a strike? If you have today off, how are you celebrating?

I've never willingly been part of a union - or been "proud" to be part of one.  High school had less annoying politics to deal with...

I have today off because I don't start my new job until tomorrow, which is a good thing because I totally overshot my alarm, rrrf.  Aka I set it for 4am, woke up at 4am, blinked and it was 4:30 then blinked again and it was 05:30.  Oops.

Yes currently, yes.

Nope, never been in union (so no going on strike either).

Today is just a normal day in the UK, last Monday was a bank holiday though (still didn't do anything though).

Never done union work, but I worked at a place during summers in college that had a union for year-rounders. Not opposed to them, just opposed to people who abuse the benefits/protection they offer (i.e. people who intentionally skip work the max amount of days, union protects their job to get them on probation, then repeat once probation is up, and cycle through it endlessly).

I could end up in a union if a job offer came my way?

Might make a hamburger for dinner tonight.

I have not ever been a member of a Union.  I have participated in a strike as a scab but there were extenuating reasons for that.  I was salary non union so when they went on strike we were sent to do the union jobs.  Most of the time I ran the ironing machine in the Laundry. (I was computer support in a Hospital)  I am pro Union except for the Organized Crime element.  I have a friend that is anti union.  He thinks that the unions price their jobs out of the marketplace.

I have today off (as well as the last 2045 days).  I am celebrating with a meetup to Disc Golf.

Nope and nope.

I have today off, and rather than doing what was planned, I'm very carefully moving as my back is complaining a LOT that I overdid it yesterday, somewhere in the digging all the boxes out of my gaming closet and/or when I was working on railings for the clothesline step.  I've been up over 5 hours and can finally sit in my desk chair with minimal discomfort.  Stupid back.....

I don't think so. I've had summer/student jobs where you'd get unionized after a certain number of hours, but never reached them.

Being an engineer now, I'm in a professional order, which has its own perks and quirks.

Today is a day off. I got up late. But I'll to contribute a few hours of work from home due to the sudden assignment I got last week that interfered with my regular workload. That should leave next Friday free.

Endless, 24 hour brunch buffet. I could deal with a weekend full of that. No food pictures for you though, I haven't really eaten anything interesting this weekend, been running around too much to make anything interesting.

Yes, I'm a member of a union, but we are legally restricted from going on strike. They do a decent job of getting us continued raises and protecting our benefits from disappearing. Without it I couldn't do my job properly though. I do regulatory enforcement for a state government and without the backing of the union I'd have been fired long ago for issuing violations to anyone politically connected.

For this labor day I slept in late and am going to try and get a few hours in of cleaning, and maybe a little painting, before the day is over.
