Question for September 2:

What was the last artist* you directly financially supported? And what did you pay for?

*painter, sculptor, musician, author... Feel free to define artist however you wish. Buying from Reaper (for example) doesn't count as directly.

I have no idea. I bought some 3-d printed stuff from @Morihalda at Reapercon. She didn't sculpt the figures, but she is an artist. Does that count?

Question for September 3:

What is something the place that's you're from (originally, currently, or something in between) is known for? Is it fair/accurate?

I'll go with current.

'Everything's bigger in Texas'. So far, I have seen a fair amount of evidence to support this. I am told that driving an hour to get somewhere is 'a short trip', there seem to be very few 1 lane roads (1 lane in each direction) other than in residential areas, and most of the places I've gone to eat out at serve very generous portions.

Question/Quest for September 4 & 5:

You have your own personal chef for the weekend. What are they making for you?

Share a picture of some food you're actually having!

Since I share cooking duties with my wife (which includes deciding WHAT to cook), I don't particularly care, just give me a few choices and I'll pick one.

Just ate a bowl of cereal, nothing particularly exciting there, so no piccies.

Question for September 6:

Labor day! The history of the labor movement in the USA is interesting, to say the least, as is the reason we don't celebrate it on international workers day (May 1st). Are you/have you ever been as member of a union? Have you ever participated in a strike? If you have today off, how are you celebrating?

No. No. I caught up on all the sleep I didn't get at Reapercon, and I'm continuing the unpacking process from the con.

I have not, though I have worked as salary at a union site.  My current employer does not like unions but has taken the approach of "people only unionize when they are treated poorly, so if we treat our people well they won't unionize" and done so successfully.

I am laboring at home by doing some tidying up, but also some hobby time.  There are probably sports on TV today so I'll likely put something on as background noise.

It's technically my mom's Labour Day, because she gave birth to me on this day.

Now retired, but did belong to a Union while working. We could not strike per contract.

I've been a member of a union (think that they're more common here), but I've never been on strike.

I had plans for today that involved lots of painting for the rcl but I got a major case of messing up everything I tried touching a brush to, so I cut my losses and just watched a movie and generally chilled out for the day. Oh, and I caught a little wren that flew into a window, put him in a shoebox until he was recovered from his minor concussion and then let him go. So at least I did one worthwhile thing today!

Whew boy, when I worked in the oilfield, this was one debate you didn't want to get into. Sex was more than fine, politics and religion not so much, but unions? Yikes. Guys were either pro or anti and you'd better be careful, because they'd try and trick you into a conflict you didn't want to get into.

The closest thing I ever did to striking was the year dad was putting off fixing my furnace. My pets and I staged a sleep-in protest, in honour of my heroes, at his house. It didn't take more than a few days.

Yes, long enough to get a pension out of it too. I’ve never been part of a strike, though I don’t cross picket lines.

I spent the day doing home labor 😛 Laundry, shopping, making dinner, etc..

Only one thing is needed: my quiet toddler. There’s no greater sign of Trouble than a quiet child.

Odds are two are redacted (with one being purple), bacon is involved somehow, as are well made cinnamon buns (with hotly contested raisins in it), and probably some Costa Rica origin coffee that's preferably honey process of some kind (red honey seems to be my favourite).

Yes, I literally did just describe the beginnings of a nice breakfast as a way to summon this fox.  Bacon is magical, didn't you know?

Yes, I've been a member of 2 unions in my life; Police and Merchant Navy. As Kuroneko has said, the history and function of unions in UK is very different to USA. I would have struck if the cause seemed just.

No day off today, but I have attended May Day rallies in the past.

I'm in the Royal Netherlands Air Force as many of you know.

So yes, I'm a member of a Military Union and no...We are forbidden to go on strike.

Also..we Dutch do not celebrate that day.

  • A litter of Boxer Dog Puppies
  • A Pile of Bacon
  • A CD with unreleased music from Motorhead
  • A Pile of Dark Chocolate
  • My Girlfriend telling me to get over there..

( In fact the last one alone would probably work)
