Reapercon 2022 excitement thread!

It's also worth noting that all the other activities do not share the same schedule or duration as the classes.

So classes; games; Reaper tours; hobby hijincks; ceremoines; etc. are all independant of each other and easily overlap. So if want to try a bit of everything, a bit of scheduling is necessary.

My husband was thinking of running a couple of D&D games. Where does he need to go to sign up for that? I haven't been able to find anything. Also, any chance people would like a vendor that sells Freeze Dried food that is incredibly delicious and good for food storage and every day use and snacking? I know it doesn't have much to do with minis and painting and gaming, but everyone needs food, right? HAHA.

The gaming section is not open yet.  When that goes live you'll be able to sign up to run a game during one of the time slots.

For vendor info, contact Reaper directly.  I can't believe that info isn't on the con website.

I was just mainly wondering if freeze dried food would even be a thing that people would be interested in.

I love freeze-dried food! I would check whether there are any local regulations about selling food products at an event, though. Freeze-dried stuff is pretty low risk, so I doubt there will be any issues. 🙂

As far as beginner-friendly classes, both of mine are geared that way: Fun with Shiny Paint! requires no previous experience, and Chromatic Shine, while a bit of familiarity with layering is helpful, I do cover the basics of it in class. 🙂

I plan to sign up for at least one of your classes! I'm trying to diversify my instructors so I can glean bits and pieces from as many people as possible!

And yes! The freeze dried food I sell is amazing!!! So so good! I just don't know how big of a hit it would be at this type of convention, or how I would man a booth, take classes, and participate in everything else! HAHAHA!!

@PammyD2  Food at a con, yeah, that will sell well, but the Hotel has serious rules about outside food and the Con, so I doubt it would be allowed. That said, vendors tend to be at their booths the whole Con, so unless you have someone to spell you, you likely wouldn't be doing much else.

In other news, all four of my classes got accepted.  I'm doing the same slate as last year as they all filled pretty fast and were fairly popular (I think they were some of the only GS classes at all last year).

My classes are:

- Miniature Barber (Adding hair, fur, feathers, and scales to a mini with GS)

- Forged in Putty (Making weapons and hard objects from GS)

- Sculpting Nature (My very beginner class teaching the basics of GS sculpting in an iterative fashion)

- Move those Joints (Reposing and re-sculpting minis into the new pose)

I'm doing 2 on Thursday, 1 on Friday, and 1 on Saturday.

I have yet to begin to paint a mini for the Open.  I had BIG plans this year, but with sculpting 5 dragons in 3 months last winter, then the sculpts I did for Bones 6 and beyond, Gus's graduation and party (this week and next), and now a HUGE new sculpt I am doing for Dark Sword; I'm not sure that I am going to get anything done. 🙄  So, essentially, it is going exactly like every other prior year; I'll probably start something much smaller than I want to do and pound it out a couple weeks before the Con.  That said I am also moving Gus to college in August, so...maybe not.  What will be, will be.

As a side note the vendor hall has been sold out since mid April that’s why there is no information on the web site.

Could you poke someone to get the web site updated? (Yes, I know they're perpetually understaffed and busy) It still says "We have not finalized our exhibitors yet. Please check back"  which gives the impression that space is available.   If it's completely booked up, we'd like to see which vendors  are going to be there for us to spend $$ at.

This may have been asked before, but when do classes typically go on sale? I purchased the VIP pass so that I could make sure to actually get some classes this year and I really don't want to miss out!

Soon. ***

We really don't know, but they've been promising "soon" on the weekly stream.   Last year they went up in July.  Some years it's earlier.  And nobody wants to miss out, but some classes will fill really fast, so expect that you won't get every class you want. Have a backup plan with 2nd and 3rd choices.

*** Reaper says this a lot. It's kind of a joke around here.

I add my query.  Except I would like to know specifically when classes will go on sale.  Typically, the class sale date can get posted on various social media sites before being posted on the Reaper site ... which leaves out those of us who don't haunt Facebook and such.

I recall, perhaps incorrectly, that Ron said on Reaper Live (on Twitch -- there you go) they would go on sale this week.

I just watched through last weeks Reaper Live, and I'll remind you that Ron says a lot of stuff that doesn't happen.  I believe he said "Probably next week" which is not a confirmation at all.  They did a pretty good job last year getting the word out I think, better than some previous years.

I really need to get my diorama stared - I have  some of the characters done, but not terrain or backdrop.

I have low expectations for a diorama medal - with 2 previous bronzes, I’m doing this one because I really want to paint more waterlillys.  Not cause I think it will do any better.
