What kind of Lord of the Rings sculptural shenanigans is going on in Scotland?

Our noble guardians are perfectly peaceful, just don't mess with them at night!

Nessie

I hope they discover some sort of massively sized eel or something.

I hope yes.

Loch Ness is an odd place. The water can be totally calm, then a massive ripple will appear. Almost as if something moved just under the surface of the water. Never personally seen anything actually breaking through, but it's very peculiar.

Oh, and a nod of appreciation to @Kuroneko's Scottish Burryman. I've been spreading that story to all other other folks around the state who routinely get covered in burrs and beggar ticks in the line of work.

I'm pretty sure that Bigfoot is just an emigrated Burryman. He's just angry because no one is offering him a dram!

QUESTION OCT. 4th.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CRYPTID CREATURE ?

BONUS

DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE REAL AFTER ALL?

The chupacabra, it's fun to say. Is it real? A reptile-like creature with sharp quills running down its back that drinks the blood of goats and livestock? Doesn't sound that far-fetched to me.

Probably not since a huge sauropod would have been discovered by now, especially since even the most remote tribe might have a cellphone these days..

With how easy it is to shop pictures anymore, pretty much the only convincing proof would be either a live sample or an intact corpse that could be DNA tested*. Given that the areas where Mokele Mbembe are said to be are extremely remote, it is possible that it may have still gone unnoticed. Which is kinda the same for Bigfoot, although sightings historical and common are fairly frequent. Portlock Alaska being abandoned due to Bigfoot attacks and the Missing 411 disapearences point towards a more sinister side of Bigfoot as well.

*Which then would open up the can of worms as to whether or not the folks doing the testing would respond truthfully, as the confirmed discovery of something like this would upset a lot of scientific applecarts.

I like to watch APTN, the Aboriginal Peoples' TV Network here in Canada, and they have some really interesting shows about mythological creatures from the First Nations' POV. I watched one on sasquatch. From the Canadian Encyclopedia: "The word Sasquatch is believed to be an Anglicization of the Salish word Sasq’ets, meaning “wild man” or “hairy man.” J.W. Burns coined the term in the 1930s. Burns was an Indian agent assigned to the Chehalis Band, now known as the Sts’ailes First Nation. The Sts’ailes people claim a close bond with Sas’qets, and believe it has the ability to move between the physical and spiritual realm." Sasq'ets is also the totem of these people, and a sacred creature. The local Whites have a sasquatch festival that they find quite disrespectful. To them, Sasq'ets is always female and she is a powerful omen when seen.

I have to say my four year old self adored Ogopogo, a Nessie who lives in Lake Okanagan. You can buy a cement Ogopogo for your garden made locally. I saw it in a local gardening magazine and apparently it is extremely popular in the region.

DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE REAL AFTER ALL?

In myths and legends there is talk of the mysterious Glitter Wolf, a trickster that is capable of all manner of shenanigans. When it feels threatened or bored, it has the ability to shoot glitter bombs from its broccoli.

Such a thing does not really exist, it's actually a regular wolf that gets hair treatment to give it that glittery shine, to be touched up every few weeks to deal with those grey roots. This week's colour will be Kaleidoscopic Cosmic Cacophony. Also, this being is intelligent enough to send you glitter bombs, so I would suggest not opening anything they send you.

If you're interested in any other cryptids that are not Glitterwolf, I highly recommend Storied on YouTube. It's a PBS channel that delves into the background of each creature and also has videos on literature, and is very informative.

Of course I'm real, quite a few of the people on these boards have met me. ::P:

There's already a painting thread in the Halloween spirit as well. My questions will be a bit in that direction but not entirely Halloween only. Sorry if you don't like it. If more people hate it let me know then I'll change the subject.

No, I love it!! Keep going with the Halloween themed questions!

After much thought and debate I've settled on the chupacabra.

I do think it could be real. The idea seems plausible enough and growing up in Texas did not reinforce the idea that it's not real.

Question October 5th.

Do you think Halloween Costumes should be about something scary or can it be anything?

Provided thought and effort is put into it, anything goes in my opinion.

Last time I was at the grocery store I couldn't believe the cheap terrible costumes were $35 CAD these days though.

With the number of kids dressing up as their favorite characters, *almost* anything is game.

I say almost as different age groups have different costume preferences. A family friendly walk around the neighborhood to get candy is one thing; but the adult office costume party with alcohol is quite another.

[Grabs old person's cane]

Back in my day, you'd grab a Halloween season cereal box and cutout the monster face and eye holes on the back where you'd tie it up with string to your face.

Frontal and peripheral vision was minimal, it wouldn't hold up well, it was uncomfortable. On the plus side... uhm... you got cereal out of it!
