Teaching Classes at Reapercon

Forgive me if this is a dumb question/ thread:

How does one go about teaching classes at Reapercon?  By invitation only? Or draft up class ideas write it up and propose it or?

If one does do classes, what if any is the compensation?

I am thinking about maybe teaching some.  I dug around a bit but couldn't find really anything specific, just mentions of people deciding on their class ideas and getting them ready.

Thanks!

It's not a dumb question!

I don't have firsthand experience on this topic, but I can tell you the following info:

When Reaper is ready to start coordinating with their instructors to schedule classes, they will first contact past instructors to see if they will be returning to teach their past classes and/or new ones. After that, they put out a general call for new instructors. There will be an online form for you to fill out that will ask a bunch of questions. You will need to have a class title and detailed description, but not a full draft of the entire class. You will fill out preferences for things like the day and time, then you will need to select the categories that your class will fall under; things like if the class is for painting or sculpting, etc. & demo or hands on, etc., necessary skill levels required, things like that.

You will also need to know what materials your class will need - If you will be teaching the class in person, there will be a list of the materials that will be supplied and you will need to let them know if you need anything in addition to that. You will also need to select what specific models will be needed for the class and what quantity will be needed.

If you will be teaching the class virtually, then you will need to give them a list of all of the materials you will be using (including non-Reaper materials) so that they can be listed for the students ahead of time so they will be able to get what they need.

As Guindyloo said, that's not a dumb question at all, thank you for asking.

All of the above information is correct, BTW. I was a first time instructor this year, and everything posted above meshes with my experience.

About compensation: yes, they will cover your ticket and/or your hotel room, but you need to be teaching a certain amount of classes for them to do so. I do not know what that number is, though. ( Being my first time, I only taught one class. )

If you have any other questions or want more specifics, let me know and I'll help as much as I can.

This was last year's compensation, but it does tend to change every year, so this ia a general idea only of what was done in the past:

If you teach ONE APPROVED class:

- a paid ReaperCon Artist 4-Day Admission Badge

If you teach TWO APPROVED classes:

- a paid ReaperCon Artist 4-Day Admission badge

- one free ticket for the Meet & Greet

- ReaperCon Swag Box

If you teach THREE APPROVED classes:

- a paid ReaperCon Artist 4-Day Admission badge

- one free ticket for the Meet & Greet

- ReaperCon Swag Box

- approved travel expenses reimbursement

If you teach FOUR OR MORE APPROVED classes:

- a paid ReaperCon VIP Artist 4-Day Admission badge

- one free ticket for the Meet & Greet

- ReaperCon Swag Box

- approved travel expenses reimbursement

- a seat on Artist Alley*

- approved Lodging expenses reimbursement

You submit the class idea via the link when they announce it.  They will then approve or deny it.  I suppose it would be possible to teach an Unapproved class on your own, say in a vendor booth like Fort Wappel; and those would not qualify for compensation in this scheme, but only classes that Reaper is orchestrating.

Again though: I do not speak for Reaper; I am only providing context with information that was published last year.
