Inarah's Minivember 2021

Recommended Posts

Day 8.  Got a reasonable amount of work done today.  Touched up a few spots on these guys, and did the bases.  Tomorrow a few last details and they'll be done.

Focused time on the two dark elf chicks. The silver and purple is working much better than blue.  Put some more paint on the wight. Don't much care what the figure ends up looking like, it's only going on the table to get killed, so I'm using whatever if leftover on the palette.

The elves are very close to done, have faces and a few bits to complete.

These guys.... I dunno.   Tried some highlighting and it came out badly.

These are the figures I most wanted to paint this month and I'm getting discouraged.  I need to find a look that works and get them done.

Didn't get a pic but I started a base coat on the HESCO barriers, and started cleaning up one of the Xair bots.  They sure have a lot of mold lines, like cheap plastic crap from China.

Our weather has been great the past few days and I'm busy spray priming everything I can think of before the cold snap.

I wish I had some advice to offer, but robots have been hard for me as well. Actually, any of that sort of flat panel techno-stuff—I have the same problems with miniature spaceships.

If they are going on a table for a game, like your wight, sometimes it’s helpful to remember that, even if they are key figures, they are still just a detail in the overall look of the table.

Thanks, Rob. I don't have too much trouble with large flat surfaces, but these guys have a lot of texture to them.   I went over them all with the TurboDork Blue Steel.  This gives them a better unified look.  Once I get the basing done they should improve again.

Started a few figures not on my list, at GM's request.  They are wanted for Saturday.  DH printed the tree man last night.

I started with some brown liner and put a little color on the orcs:

Finished up details on the troopers. Calling these done:

That makes 3 finished.

Day 10:  Put a coat of Heartwood on the crates after trimming them of flash and defects.  Not the color I expected, I went over these later with Driftwood.

Finished the two dark elves:  (that makes 5 complete)

Filled in some bits and bobs on these two.

Making progress on the orcs:

The tree is coming along nicely.  It's going on the table for a one-shot game, so I don't want to spend a ton of time on it, but it is an eye-catching piece so I can't be too sloppy.  So far it is brown liner with successive layers of Rotting Wood and RW mixed with Driftwood.  The leaves (and orc skin) are Gnoll Pelt.

Also been working on robot bases, and looking at what to start next.

Made quite a lot of progress today.  First batch of robots is done:

Finished the wight and crates:

Finished the orcs:

That puts me at 14 complete.  And I finished the tree (#15) with a little mossy highlighting and some flock and basing:

Played around with paint color for the starship generators. I want an old fashioned institutional green, I've got 20 bottles of green paint one of them must work.  I mixed a couple and it is too bright. I may try the "sample" shown, but it's brighter than I'm thinking of.  I need a color that says "despair".

While I had the green out I put camo on this DGS figure:

Game tomorrow, possibly more painting on Sunday.

Moving along today, not exciting, but stuff is getting done.  Liriel is done. (#16) I got some more paint on the HESCO boxes.  Pulled out the hero to start blocking out his super-suit.

The two generators do look better in the insipid green, especially when applied in a hurried careless way like a low ranking maintenance drone might do it.

This afternoon I hunted down some replacement bases for a few of the Enforcers so they'd all match on the table.  Then gave them all a coat of solid white.

Fiddled around with these.  I think I've done as much as I can to the HESCO barriers.

Knife girl got some more color on her.

Progress this weekend:

Knife girl got some more paint, I'm going to do her face and she should be done.  Started work on a new barbarian girl figure to be used by one of my group players.  Got basic colors down on her.

Ink wash on the white robot came out pretty well. Could use a 2nd coat on the back.  Cyborg hero guy is blocked in, green ended up darker than I wanted but it's ok.  Will add some metallic or brighter details.  Painted bases dark grey, they need another coat.  These 4 and the generators are on track to be done by Thursday.

Scrubbed a couple new figures, including the Blood Nebula Mercenary I wanted to do this month. If weather holds in the mid 50's this week I'll do some spray priming.

Finished the generators on Monday night.  Thought about adding some safety decals, but none in my waterslide collection seemed right.  They are good for now.   Knife girl is also finished.  Up to 21.

This afternoon I added sand to the barbarian base, and put the old man with the moonshine jug on a base.  Painted Benedict Baker and cyber hero's face with brown wash, and threw some extra paint on the armor stand.  Not a lot but every step counts.

You're doing well, keep up the good work!

I like how the generators came out. Apologies if I missed it, but who makes knife girl?

Thanks.  She's by DGS games.  They make a line of figures for their fantasy adventure and skirmish games. I backed a few of their early crowdfunded projects.

It has been a dark time for the Galactic Empire.
Strong meta for the other factions have lead to few victories,
and the faith of many Imperial commanders had been tested.
But now, when all seemed lost, and new RRG has emerged.
      Unit costs have decreased.
Changes have breathed new life into nearly abandoned Imperial troops.
And leading the way, mighty Lord Vader's Sith training has made him even more powerful and devastating.
Now is the time, for the Empire to strike back!!
So, a new year, and a new Star Wars Legion painting WIP.
Last year started strong but then I almost completely stopped painting for quite a while. Instead I focused on getting a bunch of units assembled, as I was playing fairly regularly. My back going to crap probably had some impact on my painting too, all those meds aren't helping with my focus or energy levels.
Regardless, I've finally felt like painting again the last week or so.  So I'm going to go with it and hope to settle in to a schedule where I'm getting a few hours of painting in a week.
My goals for this year are to get back to painting Empire forces, but also to finish up painting my CIS army.
For the CIS I still have to paint two more units of B1s, and base them and the 2 units I've just finished up in the old WIP.
Then there are 3 units of STAPs, 3 units of Droidekas. 3 Spider Droids.  3 boxes of Magnaguards.  3 boxes of Bx commandos.  A bunch of commanders and specialists.  Oh, and 2 snail tanks, and two AATs.......so a bit...also 1 more unit of B2s if they ever come in.
But, as soon as I get through the 2 units of B1s (they take up too much room on my desk to work on anything else at the same time) I'll start moving in some Imperial units to mix it up.  And get back to painting white......

      Reaper Challenge League 2022
      1) Intro
      2) How It Works
      3) Types of Challenges
      4) The Raffle

                         PDF Check List               Discord
Welcome to the Reaper Challenge League (RCL), a system that rewards fans for completing community-based events and challenges. This will all be conducted via the Reaper Miniatures Discord, where there is a system in place to track points and administer raffles easily (see below).

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST ----- This is meant to be a challenge against yourself to see what you can accomplish, not a contest to compete in against other people in the community. So enjoy your time in creating stuff and have fun doing it with everyone else!

Only Reaper minis will be accepted except for in the Freebie/Bust categories. You can use any paints for submissions, the only exception is the Limited Palette challenge.

      How It Works:
Users can submit photos of RCL projects on the #submissions area on Discord and receive points depending on the tier of challenge.
These points can then in turn be used to purchase raffle tickets which will be drawn quarterly, with a large annual raffle at the end of the year. Only Reaper minis will be accepted for submissions, except for in the Freebie/Bust categories. You can use any paints for submissions, the only exception is the Limited Palette challenge. Each quarter, a RCL raffle shall be held during the last seven days. This ensures that people have ample time to enter tickets or finish any entries so your points may be exchanged into tickets. On the last day of the quarter, the raffle will be drawn, and winners posted. At the end of the year a larger raffle will occur that accounts all accrued points points you have earned yearly (spent and unspent).  Terms and Conditions may change at the discretion of Reaper Miniatures at any time.

      Type of Challenges:
All entries must show some sign of trying and not just throwing paint on to get some quick points. In keeping of the spirit of the league, challenge yourself and see what you and others are capable of. The amount of points that each one challenge will grant are in the () below, as well on the PDF for the 2021 chart. Reaper Challenge League PDF

      The Raffle:
The raffle will happen the last 7 days of each quarter, This will ensure that people have ample time to enter their tickets or finish any entries they need to complete before drawings. Tickets will be pulled on the last day of each quarter!
This will all be done on the Discord server, as we have a bot that is programmed to keep track of members points and how many tickets they have. We will use this bot to open the drawing and for you to enter and participate with the system. The drawing will stay open for one week before doing the drawing on the last day at a set time!

      Thank you, the team!

      Frequently asked questions
Q: I am just wondering if one model can be turned in for two different categories?
A: In the spirit of the challenge, we would like it if you submitted a different model for another challenge. As this isn't a contest and meant to get people hobbying. 🙂 so you would just be doing yourself a dissatisfaction!!!!!
Q:  Since the Reaper Discord moves so insanely fast, how will winners be notified?
A:There will be a channel that is static that is read only, for raffle winner and other announcements.
Q: Will the raffle draws be things that can survive through colder climates when shipped?
A: Not to sure on the exact prizes but this ties into your third question, I can hold things for you if cold climate is an issue and ship it at an opportune time.
Q: For the Quarterly holiday - what are you looking for for Q1?  Like would just, any winter/snowy model be ok, or do I need to figure out what a MLK day themed model would be? 😜
A: The rules are very loose, as this is not a contest and is meant for you and others to hobby!!!!!! So if you think its a holiday or a special day? By all means paint something and present it under that challenge category, as long as you spent time and effort into making it, I will recognize it. As an example if you wanted to paint something that was for your birthday! i'll count that!

This is not the first set of bots I've painted, but I get to keep these.  They're a lot of fun with interchangeable arms and accessories.
