Uh, have you been getting my mails? I'd really like some feedback on whether I'm building in a good direction before I keep going.

I have, and yes, I like where you're headed with your idea--keep up the good work! I thought I'd replied to you...? Either way, keep going with it and keep me posted.

EDIT: I've already emailed you about it, but on here as well, my apologies for not noticing the attachment in that last email. I've read it and I stand by what I said already; keep going in that direction, I really like it. Would Hoshiku want to travel with the monk/sorcerer mentioned, Ishihito, for safety's sake as well as for to seek greater tales of glory?

Well, Yahoo certainly can be... quirky...

Hoshiku logically needs to start his journey alone alone, but should be right happy to join up with suitable (very loosely defined as: makes for a good co-star in the legend of Hoshiku) companions once he's a bit further into Minkai proper.

A bit stumped on archetypes. Given the "wandering priest/preacher" persona will be core for the Kitsune bard, I really don't want to lose Versatile Performance (using Oratory for Diplomacy and Sense Motive is arguably the most perfect fit to a bard concept I've ever had), and Inspire Courage/Competence both match the concept extremely well. I can't seem to find a single archetype that seems a fit thematically, but doesn't replace any of those three. Anyone have any ideas?

Otherwise, I guess I'll have to stick with archetyping my martial level dip, even if it is just a thematically perfect option that doesn't actually change a thing mechanically.

What's your build now?

Will start bard 2/ranger(yokai hunter) 1 and then focus on bard; the ranger dip is for martial/Starknife proficiency (allowing for Divine Fighting Technique (Way of the Shooting Star) as the level 3 feat) and for being particularly good at fighting oni for backstory reasons. Treading a somewhat diffuse line between posing as and actually being a wandering priest/preacher of the Goddess of the North Star (i.e. Desna), in that he's not actually a priest, but a legit believer as a preacher. Loves telling heroic tales (though classics tend to focus more on how clever the heroes were than in human traditions) as a way of inspiring people (cf. wanting to keep VP Oratory, and the Inspire abilities).

Some I have looked at closely: Juggler would avoid the level dip, but doesn't fit the concept, at all; Faith Singer or Songhealer would be good fits thematically, but both would mean sacrificing VP Oratory of all things; Animal Speaker would fit his background (simulating he grew up a bit closer to nature), but not so sure style points are worth sacrificing Inspire Competence.

My backstory is way to focused on the bard-preacher at this point. Baseline bard it is, then!

Hmm. Do Tian Xia Oni even commonly use a racial language? The languages entry in the Dragon Empires books does hint at Abyssal, but the lore for the Oni Kingdom of Chu Ye only lists languages matching the common servitor/slave races, which suggests the oni rulers don't actually truck with Abyssal. Asking for a foxy friend who might take Linguistics ranks.
