It's national "clean your refrigerator" in advance of Thanksgiving day.

Nov. 15: What's been in your fridge the longest?

I don't currently have a refrigerator, but, way back when Old Crazy Linda & I were first married, there was a stew that hid in the back of the fridge until we moved. By that time, it had developed an ecology all its own with new & alien life forms.

Broccoli! (< not forum censorship actual broccoli). They looked at me with hope, but I've taken out the Secreto Iberico instead (special cut of special Spanish pig).

I found a tub of plain yoghurt that was over a year old last week. It was a very nasty brown liquid. We didn't even try to recycle the container.

To put winter tires on the car. To throw out that yogurt!

My wife (especially) and I (sometimes) are usually pretty on top of this.  At the moment, I think the oldest thing in there is an unopened two year old jar of red currant jelly used for a Christmas cookie recipe.  I was desperate in 2019 and bought a box of 4 jars.  Last year they were still within date; I think not this year, so I’d better add a replacement to the grocery list and ditch that jar.

That would be a toss up between a bottle of vermouth and a mason jar of homemade gin from a friend. I can't remember exactly how old either of them are though.

Probably a jar of mustard.

The turn around in our fridge is pretty fast, nothing lasts long enough to develop any extra limbs or eyes..

You're a day late with this question,  I just cleaned out the 'fridge yesterday, otherwise I might have had a more interesting  (disturbing?) answer.

At this point it's a toss up between the strawberry jelly, and the Italian salad dressing.

To do some research about tall ships and sailing frigates.

I learned things.
Thing 1) Sophie’s Revenge is a full length feature film, a RomCom, a Korean-Chinese production, about a comic book artist named Sophie.

Thing 2) The rails that look like a ladder going up the side of a ship are called: The Accommodation Ladder.

Thing 3) The gap in the railing at the top of the accommodation ladder is called: The Entry Port. (Which might mean it is not a gun port.)

Thing 4) Losing two gun positions on the upper deck would make the Reaper ship a 28 gun frigate. A sixth rate. One of the most common sizes of real world sail frigates.

The lightbulb.  We take everything else out when we clean it.

If you mean food items, it probably is the paprika.  It is about time to get a new one.

I expect there are a small number of things that have been in there since we moved 2 years ago.  Random fancy mustard, yeast, likely a few other things if I went and looked.....

Having just moved 7 months ago, nothing is really *that* old.

Currently, it might be bacon grease. At least I *think* it's bacon grease. It may be on the verge of evolving into a higher life form if I disturb it from its hibernation.

Curiously, the oldest thing in my freezer is Green Stuff.

I'm actually pretty good at keeping the fridge tidy, there will be a few random jars of stuff in there that'll be a few months old, but nothing terrifying or gross.
