Is going on a cruise something you’d consider doing? If you’ve never done that, what was the longest voyage on salt water you have ever made?

I would love to someday. Wasn't something my family did when I was younger, and hasn't been the kind of thing I can afford in adulthood. Longest salt water voyage I've ever had was taking a ferry in Cape May one year. Can't remember the details much beyond that.

Christmas decor: …Are you tired of seeing it yet? About how long have the stores near you been festooned with forests of little trees? Do you have a tree up of your own?

My rule is that I don't like seeing it until Thanksgiving.  As a horror-fan, I used to hate early decorations but I've softened over the years.  Especially since my own time-management issues mean I either get my tree up early, or it happens the week of Christmas and stays until February.

This year we got it up in a timely manner:

Emergency preparations: do you practice for emergencies?

I'd like to believe I'd know what to do, but I'd probably just panic.  I've got too much anxiety as-is to spend time thinking about worst-case scenarios.

Who here has ever been in a storm at sea; what is the foulest storm you’ve been in?

No sea storms. But plenty of nasty winters. Driving through snow storms is my nightmare. No visibility. No traction. Just crawling up and down hilly Pittsburgh streets and hoping you don't slide into danger.

Who here has ever been flying at night?

I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights on a flight from the US to Iceland.

Which do you like better Dawn or Sunset? Have you ever seen either from the air?

Dawn is definitely better for photography. But I'd rather only be awake for Sunset. I think I've seen both from the air?

What is the best -or- worst surprise (pick one or the other) that ever happened to you?

One of the best surprises I've had was near the beginning of the pandemic, when a bunch of my friends pitched in to get me Ma'al Drakar as a birthday gift.

I'd like to pretend that I immediately, assembled and painted him, but... he's still sitting in his box as I work up the nerve to tackle him.

My worst surprise was waking up the day after Christmas to find that I could not move my legs. I was 11 years old.  Had to go to the hospital to be put in traction and pumped full of antibiotics,  I had an infection in my hip socket.  In the hospital for four days and missed two days of school.

Best surprise ever was finding out my wife was into me. I mean, she wasn't my wife then, it would've been a less of a surprise if that were the case. I'm about as cognizant of intimate relationships as a rock (and it practically took her hitting me over the head with a rock for me to figure it out). I'm also a bald, hairy, weirdo. So you know, not just surprising, but actually quite shocking.

Best recent surprise: that I got that job!

Best surprise overall: that my hubby loved me. That lead to the baby surprise, which was also pretty darn awesome.

Worst surprise: my dad’s mental decline and subsequent death.

Considering that I grew up with a family that has absolutely nothing in common with me, finding out that my in-laws are just as geeky as I am. For worst surprise, digging through a donations trailer at my old workplace and finding a donated pan still full of rancid grease. It's the smell that you can taste. :zombie:

I'm actually having difficulty coming up with something for this.  Kind of weird, actually.

Best is probably a "surprise! I got you a kit you were looking at" when I injured myself, and worst was probably work last year (surprise, you're laid off).  Severance cheque from old job was a nice surprise, I won't deny that...

I had to think about that one.

Worst Surprise - I was around 20 yrs old when I had helped someone fix a fence with coal tar.

Now we did this in a nice burning Sun and I wasn't aware of the risk.

( Sun reflecting on coal tar right in your face...)

So next morning I woke up and found out I was blind in my left eye.

Lucky for me it turned out a temporary thing, I had to wear a patch for a few days to give it rest and to this day it has left a tiny tiny scar, meaning I always see a small black dot.

It doesn't even bother me anymore but I was very scared back then.

What is the worst bungle you were ever responsible for?

I have a lifetime of horrendous bungles & bad decisions. Selecting one is like picking out a special grain of sand from the Sahara.

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
