My girl doesn't like to be on a boat, so we won't.

As for me personally I could think about it but I rather travel by airplane and car.

 

Longest Salt Water Trip?

I think about a few hours of fishing from a small boat with my dad when I was young, only a few miles at Sea of course.

At one point a number of years ago, there was a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed cruise, but I didn't have the money to attend.

 

The farthest I've ever traveled on open ocean was from Connecticut to, um, either Delaware or Maryland, I'm not quite sure...  (Yeah, there's a story there, lol...) 

 

Y'see, as teenagers my brother and I were out on our neighbor's boat in Long Island Sound with our father, the neighbor and a few others... All of the adults had been drinking, so my brother and I were left in charge of steering the boat.

None of them really noticed when we broke out the navigational charts and steered the boat out of the Sound into open water, and it wasn't until we informed the adults that we were going to need gas money for the boat that they realized we were putting into a dock somewhere around the Delaware/Maryland state line...

no. absolutely no, cruise ships are just made of plague even pre-covid.

Around a harbor, maybe a fishing trip, not sure which was further geographically, but the fishing was longer time. I've got no problem with boats, just cruise ships. I missed out on getting to sail on a tall ship in the early 2000s due to a death in the family. never got another chance.

Next July we are doing the Alaska Tour and Cruise.  We were cancelled in 2020.  So far the longest on salt water is the Ferry to and from Marthas Vinyard and Nantucket.

No, I can't imagine being trapped with that many humans. I honor my grandfather by staying off the ocean (our family is a long line of mostly short-lived fishermen). 

 

Longest 'voyage' was probably from St George Harbor to Monhegan, which is about 11 1/2 miles each way. The old family fishing grounds, going back to the Revolution.

Considered and done.  Twice.  There were good and bad aspects of both trips, but I'd do it again if the opportunity was right.   Cruise ships were a teeming cesspool of bacteria even before COVID, and I like to have more control over my itinerary, but there are advantages.  Someone else does the driving, and meals are taken care of.  Both trips the food was very good, no complaints there.

Though I've already answered, I thought I could elaborate on what kind of cruise I would or would not consider.

 

The kind I don't want are party cruises, themed cruises, or convention cruises. The kind where everything you need is on the ship itself. Basically Vegas on water. So the destinations are mostly irrelevant.

 

Slightly more interesting would be the kind my mother, sister and SIL did: a Mediterranean cruise. The ship goes to many ports, and mostly during the night. So travellers can spend all day visiting new destinations, and not worry about getting there. Top notch service on the boat (after a day of touring under the sun, they wait for you with chilled towels and water bottles).

 

The most interesting kind I'd consider, done by my mother and brother, is an excursion/adventure/science tour. They cruised around Svalbard island in the Arctic ocean on a research ship used by people from National Geographic. They had daily conferences from researchers/PhD students. Visited the island on foot by zodiac. And for those willing, even swam in the Arctic waters. So overall lower on the comfort scale (though still well treated), but high on the unique experience.

We were in the process of finalizing a Disney Star Wars cruise booking in March of 2020...  Glad we decided to hold off booking anything.  I'd still love to go on a cruise one day.  Something that is on the bucket list.  Longest Salt Water voyage would be the high speed ferry between Hong Kong and Macau, about 55 minutes.

As @Great Khan Artist said, being trapped with a small suburb worth of people with no chance of escaping from it wouldn't be ideal. Of course, it's not going to be much of a picnic for them, either.

 

 

 

And the closest I've been to sailing the briny seas is when I soaked my feet in some Epsom salts.

I've thought about it, they look fun, but I'm not sure I'd cope being surrounded by so many people for long.

 

Longest voyage is either the ferry between Dover and Calais or the one between Portsmouth and Jersey (Not sure which one is longer).

There's my answer right there. Minor differences, but mostly the same (2 years less, more ships, some of the same parts of the world, but some different, as well).

My wife has mentioned wanting to do one, I don't know if it'll ever happen or not.

Eh? Maybe? The whole cesspool of plague and disease and death isn't really attractive. On the other hand, I'd consider one of the transatlantic ones maybe.

Nope,  never been on a cruise,  rarely wanted to.  Certainly not in the time of Plague 

 

I did a see Kayak trip along the coast of kauai  - it was at least 8 hours, we got to the end just as the sunset in the summer.
