Is everything wrapped, that you want or need to have wrapped?

Yup except apparently for my gift as my kids want to help and my son doesn't get home from boarding school until this afternoon.

What is your goto method for wrapping presents? How do you deal with odd shapes or long things that exceed the width of your wrapping paper?

Odd shapes go into the smallest box that will fit them.  Things that exceed the width get rotated 90 degrees and wrapped lengthwise.  Anything that can't be wrapped in one of those two ways requires reassessing life choices.

Gift bags mostly. They are reusable and take up way less space in the off season than rolls of paper.   Also have re-usable gift boxes but could not find them this year so the larger gifts are just going to "arrive" overnight while everyone sleeps.

I saw a good tip from someone's grandma, use pillow cases for large items. Relatively inexpensive and very flexible for bulky gifts. Plus the recipient gets a new clean pillow case (or two).

Everyone generally ends up with odd sized scraps of wrapping paper after wrapping all the 'standard' sized boxes and such, right?  Well, if I've got an odd sized thing to wrap, that's where those scraps come into play.

Alternately,  gift bags are a thing, as others have mentioned.

If all else fails, I dont wrap the thing,  I hide it. When it comes time to 'open' it, I tell the recipient to close their eyes, then I'll put it in their hands/lap.

Go-to method: try to have someone else wrap it. ::D:

How do I deal with odd shapes/whatnot: throw enough paper and tape at it, anything is wrappable. Package may not be pretty, but it's the effort and what's inside that counts, right?

Here's your box of schtuff.  Bonus points if it comes in a generic shipping box that doesn't say much.

I'm working my way though "Modern C for Absolute Beginners" and "Effective C", the latter of which has Cthulhu on the cover, so I'm kind of worried about my programming future.

You're learning C, I'd say that's enough reason to be worried about your programming future

Paper. And tape, …ribbons, …bows.

I have been known to wrap the ends of oblong narrow boxes in two different patterns of paper.  If I can make the two different papers meet near the middle, a ribbon around the circumference can hide the join and make it look tidy.

A long tube that is wider than the available wrap can be covered by wrapping in a spiral.

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
