Randomness XVIII: Ex-Vee-Triple-Eye

Recommended Posts

After work, I did some errands and went to check out a game store that a friend of mine found that's down the street of my place. They didn't have a whole lot that interested me, mostly anime stuff (which I don't really have room for) and board games (which I don't have room to really play). However, I just happened to ask about minis and the lady behind the counter said she had a box in the back. It was quite a box. A mix of Reaper's Bones, Dark Haven, and Chronoscope. I found a mini in the box that I had literally ordered a few hours ago. I still walked out with several. There were also over a dozen of these old Middle Earth and Fantasy War(something) minis. They were so old, the foam thing in the back of the blisters were starting to become powder. I also found some that had been damaged and were coming apart. So, I did the super nerdy thing and started to sort them when I put them away. Went I got the box, it looked like someone had just dumped everything in it. When I was finished, I had sorted the Reaper stuff by product line, separated the different stuff in different areas, put the broken stuff aside, and then had it looking really nice. Not only did I get a sweet deal (Bathalian Primarch for $5, metal), the lady who was running things tossed in some stuff that had broken open. So, yeah, I will be coming back. I saw some stuff in that box that I kind of wanted but didn't want to break the bank.

Weekend is off to a bad start, had to get an ambulance for my housemate because she was having trouble breathing.

Thanks to Covid restrictions I couldn't go to the hospital with her, but the paramedics reckoned she was poorly enough that she'll be there a few days, so there's nothing for me to do but wait and worry.

Saturday's stroll through history for July 10th:

  • 988 – The Norse King Glúniairn recognized Máel Sechnaill mac Domnaill, High King of Ireland, and agreed to pay taxes and accept Brehon Law (early Irish law). The event is considered to be the founding of the city of Dublin.

  • 1962 – Telstar, the world's first communications satellite, was launched into orbit.

  • 1997 – In London, scientists reported the findings of the DNA analysis of a Neanderthal skeleton which supports the "out of Africa theory" of human evolution, placing an "African Eve" at 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.

Do you need me to superglue it?

Oh, heavens knows how good I am at supergluing myself... to my self, the table, the minis, the paints...

It's horrible today. I called HealthLink and they said get thee to a hospital. They think it's infected. I think they should've surgically drained it yesterday, because I think the numbness (which it still is) is compartment syndrome. I told the doctor this yesterday, but I'm an advanced first aider, and he was a doctor, so you know. Off to the big city, hopefully an orthopedic surgeon can solve the dilemma.

I tried to cut my left index finger off at work with the pressure washer today. It has a nice little gash in the pad. It doesn't look too bad, and it's actually mostly numb. But the darned thing is swollen up like you wouldn't believe. I went to the little rural hospital today. They x-rayed it and weren't too worried. The feeling may or may not come back, as the doctor said I got a nerve. I'm still quite worried about the swelling, I think it's full of water. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'm headed north to Red Deer anyway, if it looks a mess I'll stop there and ask to see a hand specialist. Hopefully I can avoid surgery.

Baked an applepie today, soaked the raisins in Contreau...

It might have been a mistake to show it to my girl and the vixens..

This WAS a whole pie..

Hey! At least this vacation has gotten off to a better start then my last one (I still miss my bunny friend). My wife & I went out for Mongolian style noodles last night as it had been awhile since we were last up there. Prices have spiked (jeesh). I use to get the large bowl, eat some now, save for later but they want 19.95 for the darn thing now. I ended up with the medium bowl. I can probably see why they up the prices as I watched the other people in line as I was eating & there were a few that packed their bowl down. I think one woman might have gotten a large bowl charge for her medium bowl.......

Nice morning here too, currently 64. Opened the garage door when I got up so hopefully it'll be cool in there when we start today. It suppose to get up to 107 today after a couple cooler (if you call 97s cooler) days.

I tried so hard to laugh at that, and probably would have if I didn't immediately read it with the proper pronunciation of "pho". (For anyone who doesn't know, it's not like the word foe, but "fuh" like the f-u in fudge).

Sorry @TripleH!

Let's educate ourselves!

I'm... I'm going to keep embarrassing myself in Vietnamese restaurants. How can single letters have so many instructions?! I'm sticking to "Fuh" like "fudge".

Got a bunch of training underpants for Persephone, as well as some regular underpants. The date is set! On July 16 we start potty training!

She’s even got underpants with Moana on them. And superhero underpants! Every kiddo needs superhero underpants.

Sticking to this pronunciation makes the pun in Pho King work 😉

Ow.  I did something similar in high school.  Feeling came back after several years.  Still have a pretty good scar.

It's now 365 days since we had any local COVID-19 transmission in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory, our equivalent of District of Columbia, where I live)

Wish I could say the same.  We are making headlines for the opposite reason.

Take care of yourself, Khannie. Let us know how it all turns out.

Somewhere our kiddo picked up a love of Taco Bell.

Someday she will be a starving college student living on ramen and Taco Bell, just like her mommy.

The REAL reason I am making Sunday pot roast a tradition!
