Randomness XVIII: Ex-Vee-Triple-Eye

Random brain wave of the Day:

On a different device, Zazzle has just tried to convince me today is “International Beer Day”

It was not clear if this meant:

—everyone should consume a beer, any beer, on this day

OR

—that on this day, consuming a beer from another country was in order.

To make sure you're doing it right this clearly demands to do both.

So a Glittering Wolf would avoid a locally produced Heineken and instead go for a Budweiser from the Czech Republic..? …as an example.

Today is a scheduled day off from work, and my skating coach is on vacation so no lesson. I’ve decided it’s a kitchen day, so sourdough bread is rising and a vat of ham and navy bean soup is pressure-cooking away in the instant pot.

That leaves me some time to think about

miniatures, and perhaps to clear my desk enough to work. :poke:

Just to make things difficult, though, my son brought up our 6mm fantasy/historical miniatures the other day, and now I am wondering If I could still paint anything in that size.  Elf force for example:

The Czech Budwies is really tasty, unlike the American Budwieser. I had some when I was stationed in Germany in the 1980s. The Belgian whites are also pretty good.

It means do both. Not only are you supposed to consume a random beer, but you're also supposed to consume a beer from a different country than your own. Then a couple of homebrew beers. Then that 13% barleywine that's been sitting in the cellar forever. Then wander down to the local dive bar and have a few beers with that weird guy who's always hanging out there. Then a beer in a paper sack that you loudly consume on the streets with the other random people who closed out the bar on International Beer Day. Then home and to bed because by then it's International Hangover Day and you're going to want to try and get as much sleep as possible for that holiday.

Earlier this year, my dad let me know that my aunt had dementia. Wednesday, she died from COVID. Honestly, it doesn't do much to me. Not just because the person I knew was gone a while ago due to the dementia but also because I've had a lot of family die over the last decade. Somehow, my dad with his many medical issues, has managed to out-live both of his parents and all three of his (biological) sisters. I'm more confused than anything else...

I rarely drink beer, but when I do I tend to avoid Heineken like the plague..

A Grolsch Radler is something I drink quite often during the warmer days but that's hardly beer.

When I do drink beer I will go for a Grimbergen Double or a Kriek Lambiek or a Bokbier.

My sympathies.

Dementia is one of the things I really fear, I've seen it a few times and it's awful.

Always lovely when a service provides an estimated time...  You make sure you're ready to roll half an hour before that time...  You've been watching it for four hours...  And then five minutes before the time is due, it changes from an actual time to...  "sometime today" <_<

I have no problem if a driver is running behind, it happens.  Just update the time, and add "sorry he's running a bit late, but here's our next estimated timeframe" instead of just saying "sometime today".

Trying out SkipTheDepot today, because, well, I'm not walking six bags of bottles all the way down to the nearest depot, and dealing with sketchy people harassing me for half the way (nearest depot is in a somewhat sketchy part of town).  If I had access to a vehicle, I would have taken care of these bottles a while back, and kept them to at most two bags.

EDIT: Of course, five minutes after writing that I get a text that my pickup person is on the way.  No more bottles in the kitchen, YAY!  I'll have to wait a few days to get the balance on my account, but oh well.  I can live with this.

Well Phooey.  my company has been promising me an assistant and apprentice for years.  Then they discover someone who they want to retain and all the barriers fall aways, then the person decides to take another job.

I just hope that since the position now exists officially they will let me continue to recruit for it.  I could use someone to help out  and it would be nice to go on vacation for more than 1 day without spending 2-3 hours on the phone with work.
