Hmm.

Don't think of it as death and decay, but the process of renewal necessary to prepare for new life.

Soggy chickens for days, even if they stay under the coop, glaring at me... I don't mind, but they don't like to be wet.

Are you sure they're staying under the coop? One of the livestreams of the La Palma eruption had irritated chickens complaining during the overnight hours, so either your chickens are making their way to the island and cheering on the lava, or it's a world wide conspiracy of chickens trying to encourage the volcano gods into smiting humanity....

Only when I can actually see them. The rest of the time, they could be in Narnia, for all I know.

Makes sense they teleport; just wish they could use it to evade the things that think they're food.

Today is the anniversary of Bilbo's arrival by barrel at Esgaroth upon the Long Lake. It is also Bilbo and Frodo's birthday and the Autumnal Equinox. Happy Fall to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere and Happy Spring to all those south of the Equator.

And in a couple more weeks, on My (and Doc Bedlam's) Birthday, Frodo gets Wraith Shanked.

If they are like their wild partridge cousins, they can't teleport when scared, because their brain shuts down and can't control their powers.  I know my Grandparents chickens used to teleport, especially 'that damn rooster'

The Autumn Equinox has had an energizing effect, enough that I was able to finally get off my elf this morning and resume my battle with the weight rack. Later in the day I discovered that I still had enough energy to hike down to the cemetery....

Spoiler

The old blocked off road between Jaycee Pond and Elmwood Cemetery, now almost overgrown.

Chickens everywhere...seems to be this week's theme.

Attempted to get pictures of a family of deer that were hanging about. This is the first time I've seen deer in Elmwood in a very long time, and it's nice that the "forgotten by the world at large" vibe has returned to it.

Got to Jaycee Pond just as sunset was kicking in. As usual my hopes of seeing an arm holding a sword emerge from the water were crushed once again.

Some years back the city lined Blackberry Creek with stones as part of some kind of project. They've now been overgrown and a dam of sorts, whether intended or not has appeared.

View to the South East.

Feeling adventurous, I climbed to the center of the dam and attempted to capture the orange/purple/grey "reality just got thin" vibe going on in the next few shots.

Dam from the opposite bank. Crossing over here saved me quite a bit of walking on the way home, at the risk of twisting my ankle, or tumbling into the stream. I'm sure if the deer were watching they found some amusement in the sight of me making the attempt because it was not by any means graceful or dignified.

This is the closest I came to capturing the vibe. Paranoia about the presence of elves somewhere close was intensifying...

100_2325.JPG.4ed949ba4d9388337010935899db3e60.JPG

The path to the West once I had crossed the stream. Started getting a serious case of "get the elf out of here before I get abducted by actual elves" at this point. Although that could also have been my allergies reacting to the wide array of flowering plants that hate me in the area...

Do you two play "Your kid" when she displays unique personality traits? Such as, when she does something like this, do you just turn to one another and say "She got this from you, she's your kid"?

We do, but this wasn't one of those times - this was a definite 'OUR kid' moment. (We may have a trunk of LARPing costumes in storage. Some of them might be piratical in nature.)

The Auld Grump - some could be rather steampunk piratical, suitable for airships.

Chickens everywhere...seems to be this week's theme.

Most likely a cockatrice.......^_^

Fun night at the game store for the Saltmarsh game. Players finished Danger at Dunwater with only a few lizardfolk killed, they entered a room luckily with a lizardman that spoke common, so they were able to negotiate something with them & he lead them to the queen for talks of an alliance (also the player made his persuasion check with flying colors, paladin, prof with the skill). They got to mingle with the Lf for a bit & more importantly heal up for the next part.

The queen said, the party to make up for the deaths in the caves & more importantly to save the lives of Lf outside of the lair was to take on Thousand Teeth the Devourer, which of course was the large alligator with legendary actions. I threw in a random encounter with a treant being attacked by swarms of rats (6) along the journey. Sadly, Bob the guard didn't make it out of the combat with 1,000 teeth due to the giant constrictor snake scored a hit for 14 pts of damage. Considering the guy survived up to this point was pretty good. The fighter (now a eldritch knight) cast sleep on the beast while it only had 17 hps left & they were able to take it down, in time for store closing as well.

They were able to make it back to the lair & give the head to the queen & next week's adventure they'll make their way back to Saltmarsh & will start "Salvage Operation" the next adventure in GoS hardback. Looking forward to this one as it's one of my favorite adventures in the book. I think I'll run the encounter with the bullywugs next week on their way back. Give my guys an op to get anther magic item (if they are smart enough to search the gut of the giant toad.....).

We are losing a player.

He's moving back to the reservation while his mother is living in Ohio, taking care of her house.

Having Grump put the game for Mum and my family on hold, so I can wrap the Norse game before DtY leaves.

Not happy with wrapping the Norse game, honestly, I should have put it on hold instead of running it on a virtual tabletop. It never really worked for remote gaming. It sort of sonowballed on me and went off aeay from what I had planned.

So, asking if they want to retake their homeland, or forge a new nation, and picking back up with the original party.

That looks like it is meant for the power cable that goes to a computer? maybe a printer?

You are correct. I posted the wrong pic. I had that one in my cart before noticing the ends were totally wrong for my project. Here is the correct one, I will be ordering:

Also twice the price vs the printer/cpu version....

Thursday's dose of "Did you know this happened?" for September 23rd:

  • 1641 – The Merchant Royal, carrying a treasure of over 100,000 pounds of gold (worth over £1 billion/$1.5 billion today), was lost at sea off Land's End.

  • 1880 – John Boyd Orr, 1st Baron Boyd-Orr, Scottish biologist, physician, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient for his work in nutrition, was born.

  • 1884 – On the night of 23 to 24 September, steamship Arctique ran aground near Cape Virgenes, Argentina, leading to the discovery of nearby placer gold and beginning the Tierra del Fuego gold rush.

Hmm.

fall is also the time of harvest and relaxing, of beer and celebrations, a time to reap the rewards of the year.  Its my favorite season of the year, easily beating out spring and summer and more closely beating out winter.   Its just sad for me that it seems to pass so quickly...

okay since you all decided to bring it up and someone dragged out the punchline:

A witch is nailing a lion into a wardrobe.

a child walks by and asks "what are you doing?"

the Witch responds: "Narnia business!"
