So... at the risk of having six artists and a dozen miniature painters throw things at me...

Is anyone else thinking of doing Inktober?

.. and has dug up more than the official list of prompts?

Oh I'm considering it. But I don't know how much I'll actually accomplish. Last year I was unemployed and had plenty of time. This year, I'm fully employed with difficulty with my time management. So either I only do a few very well, or I do many with more sketchy (literally!) results.

I've only briefly looked at the official prompt list, but I'll be just as curious as the alternate lists that pop up.

I've chased some lines rather stupidly and gotten away with it. Bit proud of a bit of redneck cred.

So. My wife does crafts for her income. It comes out to minimum wage, but she gets to stay home, watch her tv shows, not deal with other women, etc. But she's a bit successful at it, and has been doing embroidery things for two years now (towels, baby onsies, and the actual embroidery designs themselves). She started out with a small home machine. Then got another. And a third. Then she decided she was making a good enough go at things to get a professional six needle machine. New, it's a five digit price tag, but she never buys new or retail so she got a really good deal. But, I'm not trying to brag about what she paid. The point is that the machine is expensive. And has lots of plastic.

Two of these plastic pieces were broken when she bought it. They're these little standing pegs that hold up the thread spools. She ordered from one place a month and a half ago. Said they'd ship in a week. One week became four, and finally they admitted they didn't have them in stock and were backordered with an available date of 6-9 months. She cancelled that order and went with another place. Unsurprisingly, they've done the same thing, and now she's noticed that they have solid 1-star reviews all over the place. She's going to cancel that one as well.

She's thus come to me in desperation. Can I do something?! Well, sure! You want it out of plastic, metal, or wood, hon? She chose wood since that's cheap and she wouldn't have to wait. No big deal. Take a dowel, put it in a lathe, and then machine down one end to fit in the peg hole. And there begins the stupid.

The lathe is covered in boxes of various garage debris. And I'm a lazy, lazy person. Know what's readily available instead? The drill press!

Cut the dowels, stuck 'em in the press, turned it on, and machined down the wood to the proper diameter to fit in the holes. True, when wood curves, you get a really funky offset peg on one, but hey, nobody said redneckin' was purdy. But she now has two replacement pegs holding up her spools and nobody is the wiser.

I'm just surprised they didn't explode on me or something like that. Bit of a confidence booster. Think I'm gonna try open heart surgery on myself next. Yup. Go straight for that big, red, pulsin' thing. That don't look right and I think I can fix it.

The giant maggots are out of stock.  Curses.  I was going to convert 12 of them to root vegetables.

I'll take "Comments you only hear in hobby forums" for 500 Alex.

First... YE GODS WHERE DID ALL THESE EMOJIS COME FROM?!?!?!?!😨

 So, um, yeah...

Jack's puter drowned when his basement flooded a few weeks back... :zombie:

Jack had to pour water out of the case. Both it and the external hard drive were close enough to the floor to get soggy. Dried them out for a week in a bucket of rice but neither is working. Hoping the techs at Staples can pull at least something off the drives when I can afford to bring them in next paycheck.

Jack pulled 10 hours of OT this week and 17 the week before that. So Jack's OT paid for his new puter (was $499, on sale for $349) but Jack was still behind on his bills so he had to pay them all in the same week, which makes his wallet cry.

Anyway, I's back. I'll assume that anyone who actually noticed I was gone missed me, lol. (With every shot so far, right?) ::D:

Windows 10 sucks.

Damn, I am sorry to hear that. Wish I could help with the disk recovery. That's never a fun, or really cheap, experience.

Ever hear Jeff Foxworthy talking about Doctors and Redneck/Southern drawl?

Whoo, got to the milestone I was hoping to hit for the month... Before the month ends, which is good.

Downside?  When taking pics and posing for a specific anime meme pose...  Might help if I reference said pose first before taking photos so it actually comes out how you want it...

Spoiler

Looks like "meh, don't care," but I was aiming for the Jojo's "oh, you're approaching me?"

Oh well ^_^

Got four (and a bit) pages of wings next, oof.  But it's also a ton of fun to build, so... Win?

Mondays, ugh... how about the daily trivia for September 27th:

  • 1590 – The death of Pope Urban VII, 13 days after being chosen as the Pope, ends the shortest papal reign in history.

  • 1822 – Jean-François Champollion announced that he deciphered the Rosetta Stone.

  • 1962 – Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published, inspiring an environmental movement and the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

I got stuck at the "shape named place" last night and it suuuuuuuuuuucked! You know how we haven't had nearly enough rain around here lately? Well, we got some. We got quite a bit. And my boss is like "would you rather be walking around when it's raining?" Um, dude, I'm still walking around but I don't have as many places to hide from it! Plus, they track us really heavily there, and I was given an almost dead phone, so it was bad. :zombie:

In other news, my hobby space is cleaner so I'm going to try to get some more minis done. Try...

Admits to having thought of the thought. Then made a mental note to try to scare up the prompt list. Then went to Google things…. Then ended up thinking,  “uuhhhhh what was that thing I meant to search for”?

@Sylverthorne  maybe we could—should come up with our own alternative prompt list??

I mean why not?

I had this weird idea just now. Our prompt list could be InkyMiniTober or Mebbe Reapertober (if reaper didn’t mind…  )

If I could figure out a good way, each day could be a random reaper miniature as the prompt….literally rolled randomly.

*stumbles through the thread blurry-eyed and guzzling coffee from his skull-mug while grunting a good morning to all* 😴

Hello othersideoftheOceandweller on my side it's evening, we already had dinner.

I made a little dish, Ground Beef, Zucchini, Red Onio, Shallot, Red Bell Pepper, Mushrooms. Sundried Tomatoes, seasoned it with Tex Mex Blend a little Garlic and tomato paste, squeezed two limes over it, baked small potatoes in olive oil in a different pan and added those to the mix just before serving.

Added Jalapeno Peppers on the plate. ( too spicey for my girl, Oldest Vixen also added them though! Snifff...so proud...)
