And I'm done basically acting as the team lead up here with none of the actual authority or benefits of the position.

So I'm quite literally doing the work of two people,

The question "Why don't people want to work anymore?" often pops up.

Initiative, hard work, competence, and a functioning work ethic are actively punished, as has been the increasing tendency for over 20 years now. Combined with the attitude that employees are disposable cogs, that being paid the rate for one person while forced to do the work of two or three, while being subjected to constantly shifting schedules that make it impossible to either juggle two jobs or plan anything in advance is somehow acceptable because "any job is a good job" bs mantra that entered the lexicon in 2007....

I could go on, but not without profanity, so in short all of the companies complaining about the shortage of workers, let alone competent ones, I have no sympathy for because they have done this to themselves beginning with the "perma-temps replacing actual employees" crap they began in 2001.

Been bidding on spaceship auctions again. Shouldn't. Really really shouldn't. But... there's this one Spartan Games ship that's eluded me. And I really like it. Is pretty.

Auction was sitting at $85. Eh, I can go higher. I know how much the last set went for. So I drive it up. And up. And up. And still am not winning.

I finally throw in the towel. Sort of. I decide if he really wants it that bad, he's going to pay big money for it. So the winning bid is not me, but the other guy is going to pay out the nose for it big time. I'm done with my bids for it as long as I can resist the urge to punish the poor fellow more.

Still have an hour and a quarter before I need to sign in to work for the day…tomorrow is a scheduled off day, and my plan is to PAINT! So this morning I need to set up the VIkings I’d like to start on.

I had a brief period of abstaining from miniatures purchases, but having a convention last weekend knocked me back off the wagon with the purchase of several boxes of 1/72 plastics.  I almost bought someone else’s painted 1/72 DBA armies in the flea market, something I basically never do, and therefore made up for it by buying new unpainted plastic for it instead.  In order to finish those potential projects off, I needed a few more boxes from dealers online, and those packages have started arriving.  One package was dropped off in person yesterday by the dealer who realized I was practically around the corner, which startled my wife and caused her to pay attention to the inflow for a while. ::D:

So I need to be painting tomorrow to justify the arrival of packages…

It would be most helpful if you could direct some of the Elementals attention to our area.

If I could, I definitely would. We've got at least a week of this heavy rain/high winds nonsense and I haven't seen blue skies in at least ten days. There's a bunch of outdoor events that we were really looking forward to, but now it looks that they'll be cancelled. Pah. I know I shouldn't moan about it because there are so many people getting hit by much worse weather, but it just grinds you down eventually.

Anyways, it's best not to dwell on the negative stuff. If any of you are feeling as low as I do today then here's something to cheer you up. A selection of cute photos of adorable animals that found their forever homes this month

Ah, the other danger of Ebay.

I 'accidentally' won something like that once.  On one hand , I was happy I got the figure/s I had wanted, on the other, I was upset with myself for the amount of money I spent.

Thursday, almost there... on to the trivia for September 30th:

  • 1399 – Henry IV was proclaimed king of England, the first English ruler since the Norman conquest whose mother tongue was English rather than French.

  • 1520 – Suleiman the Magnificent was proclaimed sultan of the Ottoman Empire, the tenth and longest reigning sultan in its history.

  • 1888 – Jack the Ripper struck again with his third and fourth victims, Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes.

Morning everyone.

This week has already burned me out.  A large part of it was the literally hours spent on the phone with both CenturyLink and Cisco tech support Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.   It was the last 90 minute call that really did it.

We added some devices to the networks at four different sites. We needed to configure some settings in the router for them, but they wouldn't show up in the router's client list so we could make the configurations.  Turns out that the router won't show new devices in the client list until they run a minimum amount of traffic in/out to the internet.   But we can't make the devices run internet traffic until we could get them configured.   No configuration, no traffic.  No traffic, no way to configure them.

At one point, I just about lost it on the poor CenturyLink tech when he suggested it might be a bad ethernet cable AFTER I pointed out we had identical symptoms at four different physical locations AND the fact that we could log in to each device on their local networks, but just couldn't make them talk to each other across the internet.  I had to forcefully point out that his suggestion would mean that we had FOUR bad cables and at the same time had managed to successfully log into the devices through those same bad cables.

We finally figured out a work around, but the whole thing was mentally draining.

Roll20 can handle it. There are character sheet templates in the system and you can buy rulebooks and modules if you don't already have them.

I own them all. Weird and Wasted now. Either print or digital.

I think it'll be a long while until that might happen.

I've played other Savage Worlds games on Roll20 and it works really well.  Like, drawing initiative is one click, and there's a "next" button that lets you cycle through easily.  Even if you don't set up much in the way of maps and just use it for tracking cards, die rolls, and bennies it's fantastic.

Yeah... I don't play Deadlands like that. I play classic. So, 2+ decks, fate chips, wound locations, and every single different die type. I have doubts that Roll20 would be able to handle it. Plus, I've had to make a few changed to the system over the years...

We want to work, they don't want to pay us what we're worth. I only got a raise because I was talking about quitting.

For those who get lost easy in corn mazes … 🤪

Last time my family & I went into a corn maze, my daughter was taking one of those classes where you get to take a "baby" home for a couple of days. OMG, that was terrible, as we had to drag that damn thing all through out the maze like it was a real kid.

My daughter & of the rest of the family were so glad to hand that evil thing off to the next person, Sunday night!!
