kristof65
My heart is thumping, and my blood pressure is up right now. Why? Because I just yelled at a customer. I didn't mean to or want to, it just happened. This site is impossible to work with. She always wants help troubleshooting problems, but she doesn't want to listen or follow instructions. I was trying to give her some basic troubleshooting steps to start, but she just kept yammering on about something else while doing things I didn't ask her to, and I finally snapped "Do you want me to just send you another circuit board to blow up or do you want me to help you troubleshoot why they're blowing up!?!" 11

They had an oil pipeline rupture over the weekend off of Huntington Beach [Surf City USA] that is still leaking and now they are reporting Lightning Strikes closing even more beaches on either side of those already closed. Losses are already projected to be in the tens of millions of dollars. I think you can imagine the disaster scenario should lightning hit the wrong patch of oil slicked ocean. What's next? Sharknado? GEM We've already had our "the ocean is on fire" moment this apocalypse... 14 hours ago, SparrowMarie said: I have in the past. I just haven't found one that's quite the right fit for me yet. I do have at least a couple of people I talk to semi-regularly about writing but have yet to talk to them about this yet since I just started it over the weekend. You might do what I did: I made my own. It's actually surprisingly successful (to a degree). I used the NaNo community here to kick it off. If you want more info, feel free to send me a message here. 13 hours ago, Inarah said: Sounds like it wasn't a good match for him. I've met a fair number of people who confuse D&D with history, and a few too many who confuse it with real life. Hope you can find new players soon. Maybe winter will drive people to look for indoor entertainent. I have the perfect game for people like this. They deserve it. 10 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said: As most of you know, you can buy just about anything under the sun at Walmart. So, to save trouble, I wrote everything on one list today--all my food and hobby items. I'm making terrain for Ghost Archipelago: Lost Colossus and to me it screams "Greek". I've been buying Halloween bits and bobs to use for terrain, just like I always come home with an armload of bottle brush trees from the dollar store every Christmas season. Today's shopping list read something like: Milk, eggs, plaster, paper towels, floor cleaner, knife blades, fingers and toes, dog food. On reflection, I probably should use different lists. I'm also making stuff for GA right now. I bought the RCon terrain/adventure set and the sloop is perfect for the "small boats" you need, able to fit 4 minis inside. I really hope they start selling them separately. But, I'm probably going to order two more sets. There's plenty of good stuff I can do with the stuff in there... 10

SparrowMarie
Bluh...rant inside. Spoiler So I had a physical with my Dr scheduled for today. I slept like none last night and now have a raging migraine and am stuffed up from the rapid weather change. I called to reschedule. They want me to get a negative covid test and until then I am labeled as "symptomatic." I basically go nowhere anymore. Husband does all the errands, mostly because he's the only one of us that drives. Like I understand the precaution but I really just have a migraine and needed a different appointment day. So in a couple of days I guess I'm going to go to Rite Aid and do a drive through test. Not looking forward to that.

Could be ADHD or severe anxiety issues. She needs to have somebody on site who can actually focus on the issues pertinent to the current problem. The extra stress caused by her unwillingness/inability to remain on focus is causing you health problems whose effects will accumulate over the years and may not be diagnosed until a decade or more after the fact. My suggestion is you need some way to document these incidents, such as recording and archiving of all communication, be they via internet or telephone. The cold hard reality is the salesmen don't care, as long as they don't have to deal with her, the corporate people you work for don't care, because they will never deal with her, and the woman will not change unless her personal circumstances force her to make changes in her situation. Unfortunately, there is a percentage of the population that is congenitally incapable of dealing with the sort of complex electronic systems that you deal with on a daily basis. I suspect the woman you describe is one of these people. Suggestion: When they keep blowing up the same piece of equipment there needs to be an extra fee that increments for each successive destruction of repairable modules. It isn't fair to the rest of your customers to have to support the extra overhead caused by the actions of congenital foul-ups Good Luck GEM
Cranky Dog
Well my overall mood took a nosedive today. I've been waiting for months to meet a psychiatrist this month to get an adult ADHD diagnostic evaluation, or whatever it is that's been bothering me for decades. So I call the clinic this afternoon to make sure I have the appointment secured. Then the receptionist clarifies to me that the psychiatrist does not do evaluations but ongoing treatments, and that it was the replacement receptionist from last summer that misunderstood my request. They don't *do* evaluations at that clinic. They refer me to another one that doesn't have any openings unless I keep checking their web page/Facebook page. No one else is taking new patients in the area or adult ADHD diagnostics. Other places, the waiting time is over a year, and I just lost 3 months waiting after the wrong place. 😒 I have an appointment with my special needs education/social worker in two days. I'll try to see what else I can do.

The first time I had to deal with her was last year, when an issue had grown so out of hand that I was the only one with the necessary troubleshooting skills to get to the bottom of it (thank you US Navy.) That was unpleasant enough that I told the company that I would only deal with her only "as a last resort." Well, today was a last resort, as the tech that normally deals with her is on vacation, I'm covering his normal call load and I was unable to pawn her off on another tech because they were busy. I'm not really upset or worried that I snapped at her specifically. Management has dealt with her long enough that they understand. I just wish there was a way to get through to her that her inability to follow even the simplest of instructions is costing her more time and money than she realizes.

There is no way to make people like this understand until the cost becomes high enough to be painful, as in "you are going to loose your business if you don't figure out another way to do business" painful. I might suggest that an automatic one week delay be placed on all trouble calls from her until she gets somebody on site who can effectively deal with the problems. It might be suggested that she needs to hire a local computer tech to deal with you/your company because of her obvious [and frustrating for you] inability to deal with these issues. The longer she is "coddled" the longer it will be before these issues are effectively dealt with. Good Luck GEM
SparrowMarie
I have purchased an at home test so I do not have to venture out into the public. It should be here Friday. I'm very much hoping I'm right and it's negative because my birthday is Saturday.
