I honestly personally wouldn’t care if FB went the way of the dinosaurs.

There's one small problem with this that you might not be aware of...

FB, being the evil entity that it is, made deals with a lot of cellphone providers outside the US, where regulation is lax and money speaks more than the people. So, what they did is got FB and Messenger on tons of phones, like, installed on them when you buy them. Even my phone, in the US, has FB on there and I literally cannot uninstall it. So, what else does FB do? Well, they pay those cellphone providers a good amount of money to keep FB, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp free to use. If you own a business, why would you let waste money on real phone calls and other apps, when all of these are free to use? It's simple, you don't. Now, there's tons of more problems with how this works (look into what happened when FB hit Myanmar if you want to see just how powerful one company can be) but the point is that what you see FB as and what the "developing world" seeing FB as are two totally different things. When FB and et al when down yesterday, things went poorly in other places. Sure, it meant that your unhinged friends couldn't post more stupid on FB but for others? It was much more devastating. I freely admit I had a laugh when I saw the FB was down but then I started learning about what those services mean in other parts of the world and I sobered up pretty quick. It terrifies me of a lot of levels how powerful we've let a "social media" company become. I also saw someone talking about how Google and Facebook should be represented in the UN and I think I just saw William Gibson appear in the sky...

This is really the lamest Dystopia. I didn't even get my robot body. <_<

Today is my Friday. In ~4.5 hours, we leave on a road trip to Great Lakes to see my son's Navy boot camp Pass In Review, and hopefully spend at least a few hours with him afterwards.  It's been three months to the day since he left.

Well... I decided to give clipless pedals a try for the first time. Bought the shoes, bought the pedals, got the cleats installed in the right place on the shoes, and spent half an hour in the garage just clicking in and out. I then took to the grassy belt behind my house to practice starting and stopping... and it was as predictable as could be.  Seriously... all my friends who use clipless make this look super easy, but even after a straight half our of 'lock in, twist off' my left foot still takes 5 or 6 tries to engage, and as  yet I haven't managed to unlock once when I start to tip that way.  My right foot was slightly less dumb, about 50/50 both in the engaging the cleat and in the getting loose when falling over.

My spirit isn't crushed yet but my knees needed a break and some ointment.  I'll try again tomorrow.

Easily summed up as follows:

Facebook is the real world Sauron.

All the "free apps" are lesser rings, collectively giving FB real world power and control greater than most governments.

=

I have "opinions" on how to deal with this, but expressing them here, even with a disclaimer and requiring a click to see them would find me permanently exiled to the cold outer reaches of the interwebs.

May you have a safe trip and a joyful reunion.

Give him an atta-boy from this old Bluejacket.

An hour of hyper-focused painting today. maybe 90min.  Time gets a little fuzzy, when the entire world shrinks to the tip of a brush.

I took my basilisk (bones 5) from primed , to an ugly stage of mixed bascoats and shadows.

not sure if I should reconsider some of my choices or just push forward.

In Cat News - we recently got a box that is 24 inches  long and 8inches wide - which is the natural state of my young stretchy cat.  He has barely left the box for 2 days.

picts soon.

Our new double recliner couch was delivered yesterday afternoon.  Two guys on the truck, they brought it in in pieces and then assembled it.  It's very nice but so heavy I can barely scoot it across the carpet for exact positioning.  I had to put furniture sliders under the corners to budge the thing.

But it is very comfy. ::):

Now to get the TV in that room hooked up.

I need a repeater for the cable box in my office so it can be used for two tvs in two adjacent rooms.
