Randomness XVIII: Ex-Vee-Triple-Eye

Elder Spawn had a career day at school.  It lasted 3 hours.   instead of the normal format - ie booths in a convention center.

they did it over Zoom.

They said it was old people on zoom day.

Some presenters couldn't mute

Some couldn't unmute

Some couldn't figure out Chat window.

Some the students mocked with memes

2 presenters showed up to talk about the same career, 18 min apart and had to hash out, in front of the kids who actually had to do it.

One class room teacher set the host function up on a computer that was in a closet, with the screen off.  (this took school IT to figure it out.)

there was also the oldest presenter, who with a little prompting just told stories of her childhood the whole time.

what was everyone doing for the past year?

Worse has happened - the lawyer on Zoom with the Cat filter that he couldn't turn off - https://youtu.be/TDNP-SWgn2w

Our folk music circle tried Zoom... it did not work well for our purposes.

It should be noted that a person in this observable mental state is a danger, not just to themselves, but to those around them.  That includes customers as well as co-workers.

If it were me, I would be making my concerns known to senior management.

And yes, restaurant management is extremely stressful, right behind Air Traffic Controllers in burn out rate,

Stay alert.

Apparently this is not the first time - all the 'attempts' being equally insincere.

This was the fourth - the cops were not amused, and wanted to take him in - but not for observation.

I'm afraid that the general manager has reached the point where she almst wishes he would just do it - the home office is not allowing her to fire the twerp.

The Auld Grump - I haven't been paying attention to the gossip at work, I guess.

My cats are playing head games with me: every morning, when my alarm clock goes off, if they're not already sleeping there, they jump on the bed and come say hello to me. They know me getting up means breakfast. So, why do they proceed to curl up right next to me and purr? At least once a week, this leads to me going back to sleep.

Your edition of What Happened Wednesday for November 17th:

  • 1810 – Sweden declared war on its ally the United Kingdom to begin the Anglo-Swedish War, although no fighting ever took place.

  • 1869 – In Egypt, the Suez Canal, linking the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea, was inaugurated.

  • 1947 – American scientists John Bardeen and Walter Houser Brattain observed the basic principles of the transistor, a key element for the electronics revolution of the 20th century.

Breakfast for dinner!

We made cinnamon French toast bake ( I've described this before, it's also really easy to find the recipe on Google), sausage and fruit salad.

Breakfast is at its BEST when served later in the day. Morning is better later in the day also...like around noon or so.

If there's something I've always remembered from school, no matter what grade I was in, is that technology never works on the first try.

  • Slide projector needs to warm up/cool down.
  • Slides upside down.
  • Overhead projector too small, out of focus.
  • TV needs to be on channel 3 for the VCR.
  • VCR tape needs to be rewinded.
  • Laptop can't connect to projector.
  • Can't find the right PowerPoint or video.
  • Unsupported video content. No sound.
  • Video conference cameras, mute buttons, shared screen, curious cats everywhere, etc.
