No, but they're gone too.  Spencers had more electronics and gadgets, the place I can't remember had handmade china ware in crates, brass bells and bowls, cotton slippers in small sizes, fish nets and glass fishing floats....

There's a similar place in malls around here called Earthbound Trading.  A little more hippy and a little less otaku, but similar.

I haven't been aware of a chain like you're describing but I know of several stores with different names I remember seeing over the years.

I still get deal emails about three times a week from Spencer's, so they can't be gone. Unless you just mean gone from your area?

I haven't seen one in 20+ years, so, um, yeah gone from any place I've lived since then.  You gonna tell me Waldenbooks is still operating somewhere, too? 🙂

Possibly in a parallel dimension, but that chain is definitely closed in this area of the multiverse. And you really aren't missing much with Spencer's these days. They literally only advertise low-grade kinky/naughty stuff. Which brings me to a rather comical reason as to why I am receiving their email flyers:

About 10 years ago my dad had been working and living in another state, and had come home for Christmas. Where he'd lived he had seen a Star Wars book called "Vader & Son" in a Spencer's at a mall that he wanted to give my brother as a gift, but didn't buy it out there. So we're at the mall here at home, and he goes into the Spencer's, heading straight to the back of the store, as that's where he found the book at the other store (and at the time he couldn't remember the name of the book, so we couldn't order it or look at a bookstore). Well folks, as it turns out store layouts are not universal. Right at the back of this store, where my dad had proceeded to go with extreme haste, was where all the crotchless and edible panties were located. Definitely no books. And dad is completely oblivious as to what is surrounding him as he keeps saying rather loudly "this is where it was, this is where it was." Very awkward moments.

I finally dragged him out of there to search the rest of the store, didn't find the book. So I told him we'd look at the online store once we were home, and I ended up ordering it. And now get numerous emails about what people in their early twenties spend their money on.

No.  Similar, but much smaller, junkier, and cheaper.  And no food or wine.  I recall they were popular with the local SCA because they sold rattan sticks and those black cotton trousers everyone likes to fight in.   I guess they were a regional business and not national.  I saw them in malls in the northeast during the 80's but they died out in the early 90s when they started bringing in more plastic crap and less hand made.

Anything with "Liquidation" in the name is a sure-fire way to get your fill of junk. We have "Bianca Amour's Liquidation Superstore", which is exactly as good as it sounds.

We live in an era where a college degree continues to mean less and less, in terms of actual scholastic achievement applicable to the real world.

Just wait until we're all Doctors.

I find at least one of my daughter’s hairs on my clothing at least once a day.

I'm pretty sure that on any given day, you could ask me if I have any of my daughter's or wife's hair, and I could find a strand somewhere in my clothing, even if I had already found a dozen pieces on me by that point of the day.  I frequently find them literally threaded into the fabric of several of my sweat shirts and socks.

Today spent several hours trying to be a Monday for me, and likely would have stayed that way, if not for the other mom in our carpool randomly offering to pick up our kids from school today.  That gave me the 30 minutes of breathing space I needed to kick Monday's a** back out of Thursday. So happy tomorrow is Friday.

TIL that according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, literally means, among other things, "in effect: virtually". And while the Cambridge Dictionary falls short of outright saying literally means figuratively, it acknowledges "missed that kick literally by miles" as normal usage of the term.

I literally can't even, which at least I'm sure is correct, irrespective of what the hell it actually means.

Right, I'll go back to trying to save my own native language, because the battle for proper English is clearly lost.

There are several instances of common usage of words being clearly wrong from history/etymology. Such as the USA usage of the word "entree" referring to part of the meal that's not the start (entry to the meal, aka appetiser). Or "Nimrod" being an insult, most likely based on a Bugs Bunny cartoon where he uses it sarcastically.

Good news!

If you work a normal 5 day (Monday to Friday) work week, there are only 222 work days left this year (not counting today).

Yes, I'm at work and slightly bored.

Also not counting public holidays.

I haven't seen one in a while but I remember them being the over-priced store for jail-bait aged teen girls.   I miss the asian imports store with all the cool, cheap decor and totally-not-for-pot paraphernalia.  Can't recall the name now....

Fareast Treasures?

I only know the outside of the store (honest) because I used to go to the mall to walk after lunch.  That was several years ago, though.  The only store I went into there was the Barnes & Noble.
