Sure, being a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs is a bit concerning, but it could be worse: nine-tailed Kitsune in a room full of rocking chairs.

You know...that's an interesting defense plan there...I may have to implement this in case Tamamo No Mae goes the Bride of Mothman route and they decide to target my water heater.

So it's been less than a week and a half since Luna passed.

We took Romana into the vet to get this thing behind her ear looked at, again. Originally the vet thought it was just an infection. We've done two rounds of different antibiotics and it didn't go away. So we wanted them to take a look. We called yesterday and they got us in today which is...fast for how things over there have been going on.

They got her back and looked at it. The vet thinks it's probably cancer. She's having surgery on Friday to remove the lump. They are going to do more tests to confirm if it is cancer or not. Hopefully, if it is, it's localized.

She has also lost quite a bit of weight in a shortish amount of time. I'm not sure how much she weighed before today but now she's about 8 lbs.

I am worried and I did not think I could be this worried and upset in a week and a half but here we are.

Elf.

Sparrow, I will remain hopeful.

Finally, I got Andi back.

He is sleeping. He has not slept well - if nothing else, that bed is LOUD - looks like at least half airbed, and all noise.

Looks like, among other things, we need to lose weight. I say 'we', because he definitely needs to, and it won't hurt me any... eh. Further refinement of the diet, more incentive to get up and about..

When I was told that I was 'pre diabetic' I promised myself that I would not deny myself something if I wanted to eat it. I just watch how much I eat. Still it is difficult at times. I do not 'eat' a whole lot of food at once any more.... well to be honest, I do not eat as much or as 'well' as I should. I try, but,,,ehh it is hard.

Last night we had to say goodbye to our oldest cat, Alex.  She was almost 18.

I am sorry to her about that. She was a pretty girl. May she rest in the sunshine forever.

I lost it the other day..... in fact, I will lose it tomorrow. Tomorrow is my baby boy beagle's birthday. He would have been thirteen. He was the bestest boy.

Thank you.

The vet called today and the section that they removed is definitely cancer. Surgery Friday to remove the mass. Won't know for at least a week after that whether or not it's benign. If it's not she has to see an oncologist. She's also lost about 3 lbs since October. They want to check out her thyroid and kidneys. She already had minor kidney issues before this. They want to wait until after surgery and everything to see if maybe she puts a little weight back on or something.

I spent the better part of today emailing back and forth with the place I retail therapy-ed about the glasses I ordered. The Rx I have doesn't have an expiration date on it so they had to contact the doctor. First phone number I gave them they told me it didn't work. Which I think it did I'm just pretty sure they don't have a voicemail so it just rang continuously, they also were probably on lunch. So I had to scour Google to find a different number. Thank you, Yellow Pages website. Never thought I'd need to use that like ever. That number must have worked because they emailed me back and told me that they were waiting on a fax from the Dr to start my order.

At this point I'm just emotionally spent. Probably physically spent as well. I need something nice to happen about now.

Oh, yah.. that's gone onto my plate; I got to add glucose testing to my routine!

Found out that anxiety spikes my sugars, too. That's fun.

We're giving Noom a shot; on account of ... well, the doctor suggested it. We'll see. I remain skeptical of just about all of this stuff.

Good game at the FLGS tonight, we had a new player show up at the table. Nice thing was he has been a DM already, so he knew what he was doing. He took a pregen (fighter) & went with it. I told him, if he shows up next week, to go ahead & bring in his own character & I can update his inventory for the game then. We also had 6 people at the table too, it's been awhile since we've had a table that size. The adventure has been  like the last few weeks, mainly a night of a big battle. As the party is currently in the assault phase of Final Enemy, this is a given as the battles have had allot of participants + the random patrol die roll wasn't kind to them either......

They are facing the Baron of the Sahuagin right now, along with some champions & regular sahaugin warriors. My players (mainly the rogue & one of the fighters) have been feeling the pain with 2 crit rolls out of 3 attacks & being ganged up on. All in all a fun night with everyone involved. I changed the story to it's the Baroness is the main power of the Sahaugin, with the Baron, more or less the face of power for them. I'm using Reaper for both Baron types, but the Baron is the new Slithe large figure out of Bones 5 & the Baroness is the female "alien head" one out of the Dark Heaven metal line up (one reason why I made her the "boss" is due to that sculpt). The final battle will be in the arena, so wide open battlemap, but it'll have quite a few enemies & they've used up quite a bit of spells & abilities in the battle with the Baron, so we'll see how they do against the final enemy.

If you have a plan that covers it, I highly recommend one of the wearable sensors for monitoring glucose (I use the Libre 2).  So convenient, and not nearly as annoying as I expected.....

So it's amphibian breeding season right now and in little pools and streams all across the country frogs and salamanders are getting freaky and filling everything up with eggs sacs. As such, a local county park district invited me and a few of my colleagues out to stomp around in some of their swamps and check some traps with them yesterday. It was snowing when we arrived, so there wasn't too many amphibians to be found. But it was nice wandering around the woods and we did find a few cool things. Took a bunch of pictures and thought I'd share some of them. Going to put them behind a spoiler though for some light gore and, well... frog porn.

Spoiler

There were just miles and miles of wooded (and becoming wooded) wetlands at this location. Some of these are natural, and some of them were constructed to offset the loss of water resources in other parts of the watershed. Which is why they invited us out as all those constructed wetlands have to meet approval from my group before they can be considered a success. I would definitely call these a success.

This is what I imagine most people think of when they think of a swamp... decay and mud and water. And in some cases that's not wrong. We definitely smelled this guy thawing out before we saw him. Found his jaw about 30 feet away.

Are those three frogs? Nope, look closer, that's six frogs. Dumped them out of a trap like that. That's some serious dedication right there.

The park district tried to cheap out and use minnow traps in place of salamander traps and so we found a bunch of Small mouth salamanders stuck halfway through the wire mesh of the traps unable to free themselves. So I ended up carrying half a trap with a few small mouth salamanders balanced in the palm of my hand to a maintenance shed where we cut them loose with a pair of tin snips. All the while one of my coworkers kept pouring swamp water into my hand to keep them from getting dried out. In the end they were fine and we released them back in their little vernal pool. Here's one before we let them go.

And what is the result of this amphibian activity? Eggs! Millions and millions of eggs! literally every pool we walked through you could just reach in, grab a stick and it would be covered with slimy egg sacs. Like in the poorly focused picture below. Made walking a bit difficult as you don't want to slosh through and destroy them, so instead we had to kind of high step the whole time. My calves are killing me.

Anyways, cheers all! Hope you get to go out and find something slimy to be impressed with soon!

.. I feel like I ought to mention that to Andi; he's the one who's sugars tend to do loops (mine have been averaging, other than this past weekend, in the low hundreds).

They're really so easy to use, and the Libre stores 8 hours of data, so scan it first thing in the morning and you can see what your sugars did all night.
