I ate a whole one myself, baked 9 little pot pies for an international fundraiser and made a cherry pie. I still love pies, but I don't want to have anything to do with them for a while. If the little pies aren't all gone tomorrow, they will have to go in the freezer at work. Which prompts the mashup: Beware the pies of March. Just like when I had to do data entry so I pretended it was a text-based vidya game. I like to imagine the entry about being eaten by grue still gets migrated because nobody who knows what it is has seen it yet. I was wearing my "Grue Repellent" t-shirt yesterday...

Green Eyed Monsty
5 hours ago, kristof65 said: So my son got to his first real Naval Duty station on Saturday. He's stationed on a submarine out of Bangor WA. He's a CSSSR (Culinary Specialist, Submarine, Seaman Recruit, for those that don't know) and has been telling me about his barracks "room". His room is basically a 2 bedroom apartment that he has to share with a member of the submarine's other crew, whom are currently out on patrol right now. So this kid, as an E1 with less than a year in has been assigned nicer quarters than I had, even as an E6, and he only has to share it with his roommate in the brief overlap between crew swap outs. I don't know if it has always been this way for submariners, or if I just served way too long ago. I received an abrupt awareness of the difference in accommodations between services when I had to spend an overnight in Transient Junior Petty Officers/ Junior Sergeants Quarters at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. The quarters I was assigned as an overnight transient were as good or better than a junior officer in the Navy would expect as Permanent Billeting Ashore. This was in the mid 70s, when NAS Millington, where I went to Class A and B Schools had finally ceased using WWII tarpaper and clapboard barracks and built enough cinderblock barracks to house all the student sailors. Lord of the Dish Pit
I have achieved my goal of sleeping through the majority of the day, thus avoiding the Ides of March and pies. 3

haldir
So my wife & I voted in our union's latest contract period last night, more or less we (ontario) is voting to join idaho's union, since we are in a different state but the same division of the company. Pretty sure it'll pass as we've done this before, only that was to get this vote on the table. Looking at the current & future pay rates & it appears that I'm getting less then what I should be getting due to I'm night crew but also a supervisor. I'll talk with the bosses in the morning about it, as I've been freight boss for well over 20 years, so who knows when that pay increased kicked in for my spot. Can you say back pay?

redambrosia
Last night we watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I really liked it. Hubby liked it. I think Sephy liked it, except that it also scared her. It scared her enough that she had a strong nightmare last night. She came to my bed crying and all sweaty. At some point she learned to be afraid of the dark and spooky monsters in movies ☹️ 1
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted March 16 Moderator Share Posted March 16 The US may finally be doing away with daylight saving time! The Senate has passed legislation to make DST permanent, it is going to the house of representatives now. Fingers crossed, we may be done with the clock changing nonsense soon. 10
