How much did they earn for all those service calls?

The distributor tech, I have no idea. But the factory tech was on salary, so no financial incentive for him.   I think it was just a matter of simple laziness for both of them - "Oh, just change the node address back" - since doing that is a two minute job (at worst) without looking into why it kept changing and what could be done to stop it.

Heard back from the third site this morning - my reset procedure worked for them, no board needed.  Unfortunately, I made a typo in my instructions which resulted in them telling the hopper full of  $2 coins to empty itself. Whoops! But they figured out my typo, and finished the reset successfully.

Today begins "The Wildest and Richest Rodeo In The West".  Yes it's Reno Rodeo time, which means the Reno Air Races will soon be happening as well.

After three years of disruption the Rodeo is back to a full program including a parade.  Glad I don't need to go to Reno for anything this weekend.

Oh dear...

The other day, one of the crows in the park worked out that the Housemate and I always carry some food for any wildlife we come across on our park walks, and had started following us around.

Today, he now has a friend.

It's only a matter of time before we're reenacting The Birds isn't it?

Not necessarily.

You could be doing @TheAuldGrump and Crazy Crow Part Two.

Perhaps ask @TheAuldGrump for advice on being a crow's friend?

::): Just got off the phone with my contractor.

Materials are being ordered, construction dates are being scheduled.  It feels good to be at this point, since it's been six months since the damage to our home that started the process of trying to get the loan for it.

I got up at 2:30 this morning. I have been sick since about 8. I'm suspecting food poisoning or something similar. It seems to have subsided or at least the meds I took are holding it at bay for now. I did get a 30 minute nap from about 9:15-9:45. That was interrupted by Husband calling because I had not answered his messages from like 20 minutes before he called. So I am awake. I am probably going to try to nap again later. I was going to be productive today too. I got a pan washed and some other dishes soaking. No way that's happening today now.

Tell y'all what. It is stupid hot here in Ohio right now. We got up to a heat index of 111F (44C) Tuesday, 108 yesterday, and it's currently hovering around 102. It's so hot I cut my field work short today so we wouldn't all melt and sent both of the interns who have been out with me the last couple of days home. One was getting a migraine and the other just looked like he was going to barf. The humidity is also super high, which means your sweat doesn't evaporate and can't cool you down. So you just keep sweating and getting hotter. Looks like we're in for another round of this next week too. And I've got several fairly grueling field days lined up for then. I think I'm going to have to switch out interns each day to keep them from burning out on me.

One nice thing though, we spent the morning out with one of my counterparts from the regulated community and he brought his interns along as well. All the interns kind of mingled while we worked and on the way back my kids couldn't stop talking about how lucky they were. Turns out the young people interning in the private sector are getting paid minimum wage to go out and dig holes in the heat this afternoon. My guys make a (barely) living wage to handle data entry in a cushy office and occasionally follow me around identifying whatever plant I pull for them and getting quizzed on stream and wetland design. So despite messing with them all the time, I think they're realizing how good they actually have it.

But yeah, my old, out of shape broccoli is starting to wonder how much longer I can keep this up!
