While visiting my In-laws in Boise, Idaho. I spent yesterday driving around the city looking at terrain and water sources. But I got lost when my cell phone coverage cut out. I ended up crossing the Oregon boarder to a small town (pop 3,3k) of Nyssa. I was looking for a place to stop and ask for directions and found the Vintage Nerd Hobby shop. on mainstreet! comics, video games, MtG cards - but also weapons,, and a good selection of Reaper and Wizkid minis. Picked up a frost giantess hunter, and some terrain , and directions for the fastest way back. the woman who owned the place is planning to hit reapercon next year, nut I didn't think to ask if she was going as a vendor or just to attend. We talked about painting techniques and I showed her photos of my entry and she recognized my work from the Reaper Facebook page 🙂 definitely a highlight of my trip. One place I've never been too is VN, then again I don't plan on going to Nyssa anytime soon either For the longest time thou,VN was the only gaming place in Eastern Oregon, until ProSoul Games arrived in Ontario. 3 minutes ago, Chaoswolf said: I think this would be the entrance to the gaming room in my place.

Oh I know that experience well. Last year, before I did my final move to a new city, I spent several weekends in a row packing my SUV and bring the most stuff I could to prepare my new apartment. Install new shelves in the walk-in, clear out leftover junk and really give the place a good scrub. Anything I could do to make the final move easier and hassle free. So I drove about 1100 km, 14 hour round trip (Saturday morning to Sunday evening), and repeated it four more times. So very similar numbers. In my case, it was worth the effort. On moving day, it took the packers about 3 hours to wrap and load up everything, and under 2 hours to unload everything in the right place. I was functionally settled in the same day.

Moderator Chaoswolf Posted July 23, 2022 Moderator Share Posted July 23, 2022 My dad used to get our 2 Golden Retrievers all amped up and super excited, then he'd open the door to my room and say 'where's (my name)'? There's no sleeping through 140 pounds of hyper Golden Retriever jumping in bed with you.
haldir
You ever have one of those minis that just fights* you the entire time it's in your hand & you just want to fling that damn thing across the room? Thou, if you did, you'd either have get up & go get the thing, cause well, you need it & if you destroyed that would mean, you'd have to order it, wait & then start all over again. Yah, I'm at the stage with a mini, it doesn't help the paints aren't really cooperating with it either. The mini in question is a Bones (Original, white) harpy. There is no face at all on her (gotta love the older generation of Bones....), thou with the contrast paint I used on her (Darkoath flesh), it wouldn't really matter if she did, as this paint came out dark, kinda like George Hamilton on a sunny beach dark.. I guess I can try & turn this one into a darker flesh-feather color scheme. I'm not spending (or at least trying to spend) allot of time with these, thanks to the 9 others I have to paint. Out of the 9, I'm on number 5 & each has been a variation of detail. Some sculpts are good, others are terrible (they are all the same Bones mini). I hope to have at least #5 & #6 knocked out today. Just hard to do with when trying to paint uphill.... *Also didn't help, the first time I grabbed her, she flopped to the side due to my double stick tape didn't hold her, except one side (one drawback of using plastic Reaper bases sometimes....).

Something to consider when doing faces on minis with low detail. Disney Imagineers have developed an animation technique for some of the animatronic figures used in park rides where the face of the figure is basically just a suggestion, kind of like a wig form face, upon which the actual and animated "face" is projected. Under the correct conditions of lighting and viewing angle it can look quite realistic. Think of these mini castings with minimal facial detail as a "wig form face" upon which you "project" your idea of a face with your paints. If you approach the "problem" from this perspective you may find it easier to deal with. Regards GEM
Evilhalfling
I got my teenager up last week by walking in and singing: "good morning, I know its hard to get up, when Ao3 is in your eyes and the days kinda sus but you got this.... " She was already awake and probably reading FF on Ao3 for at least a half hour. Later she had me sing it again so she could record it and send it to her friends. its really all her fault for getting me on tick tok 1 hour ago, haldir said: You ever have one of those minis that just fights* you the entire time it's in your hand & you just want to fling that damn thing across the room? I quit buying the human sized ones, but the gargantuan white dragon wasn't any better. and yes going back to paint bones 1 stuff - its still the same, but my standards have changed since 2013 2
SparrowMarie
7 days out. Still a ton to do. Absconding to my mom's Tuesday to get things with her sorted and to get a break from all the insanity though I know it won't be that easy. Went to a baseball game last night for the first time in like 4 years. It went okay, we lost, but otherwise okay. Lots of (free) food and good company. I didn't get to bed until like 1:30 this morning and woke up after 1 pm. Where did the days go that I could stay up for like 2 days and not feel it. Oof.

Regards GEM I don't paint eyes on any of these for Rcon but it would have been nice to have some facial detail on these older G1 figures. She turned out ok, but really just happy to put color on the minis at this point.
Arkady
Compared to many other female miniatures, Daemonettes of Slaanesh offer the benefit that with them, at least their holding spears like stripper poles kind of makes sense.
