Randomness XVIII: Ex-Vee-Triple-Eye

<ggrrrrr>

TL/DR: One of our customers just informed me that we have a new full blown distributor in his region, which was news to me.

Long version, first a little backstory.
We have a policy that we don't service customers direct if there is a distributor in their region.  There are exceptions to this - if the company has a qualified technician AND owns at least four sites in an area with only one distributor or five sites in an area with 2 or more distributors.

A couple of years ago, the tech at one of our distributors in an area where we have multiple distributors quit and went to work for a local car wash company that was building their fifth site.  This qualified them for direct sales/support, and they took advantage of it. Other than our one distributor being pissed off that he lost a tech AND five sites, things were fine until earlier this year.   The tech went back to work for the distributor. Technically, this disqualified the one customer for direct sales/support, but they were finally to a point where it was just minimal parts orders, and they had to call their former tech & distributor for service anyway.

About a month ago, the tech left the distributor again, but this time to form his own company.  We had a short discussion on how to handle this situation, but no decisions were made.  The tech himself was doing service, but had been directing parts orders through the distributors and dealer in the area.

So yesterday I get a call from the distributor - this direct customer is selling one of their sites to a new owner, effective sometime this week. He had just heard about it when the new owner called him for some parts and assistance, and him telling me about it was news to us.

This morning I get an email from the direct customer/old owner informing me the sale is effective today, and what do they need to do. *   I reply back that I spoke our distributor yesterday, here's what needs to be done, and suggest that the new owner keep working with the distributor.  I then copy the distributor on that email response.

A few minutes later I get a phone call from the old owner upset that I copied the distributor, and informing me that the new owner will be using the tech, who is now a full fledged distributor of ours. When I try to explain that "no, he's not", he keeps insisting that he is.  I finally tell him I'll look into it, and hang up to call the powers that be in Calgary.

The general manager is as surprised as I am by this news we have a new distributor.  Anyway, this kicks off a whole broccoli storm where the direct customer is now going to lose his direct status because not only does he not have a tech, he no longer meets the minimum threshold for sites owned.  We probably are going to make the tech a provisional distributor, provided he can meet the minimum sales threshold.

I was just about to hit submit on this when I got a flurry of calls, and just now got back to this.  From the time I wrote all of the above, the general manager talked with the CEO and the sales department, and it gets even more fun.  The tech had actually been doing all his purchasing through the direct customer. So basically by making a big deal of all this, the direct customer lost his status and now has to purchase his parts through the tech he had previously been effectively selling to.

------------------------------
*Waiting until the day of the sale is outright idiotic - getting a new merchant account setup and getting the info required to reprogram the system usually takes a week minimum, usually more like 2-3 weeks.

The weather has no business being 90*+ F in this part of Washington State.

103 104 here, I'll take your 90+. Thou, this is regular summer weather here. Forecast says 108s later this week. Every time I've seen a forecast & then look at my phone, it's always a couple degrees higher, so 110.

Retailers who were carrying it in this area put most of their models on clearance years ago.

Yup, happened when I was still up in New York.

I've even seen a LOT of people selling it off really cheaply on Ebay. I've picked up a fair number of figures just for painting.

So I'm painting some traditional religious types, as one of my adventures has a clergy & these were the only non-threatening, weaponless minis I could find to print off. The nun has what appears to be strips of something in her hands? Anyone know what these exactly are?

For a Catholic Nun a string of Prayer Beads would be a logical item for the figure to be holding.
