Check out the variable focus lenses.

I've been wearing them for decades and find them much more satisfactory than the traditional bi-focal lens.

Ok, I know it's pretty warm right now pretty much everywhere, but it entirely too hot when solar panels catch fire.

 

This happened a little over an hour ago to an office building in Plano, Texas. No one was injured.

I was talking to my mom about the meme here the other day about not having to grow up if you haven't by the time you are 50. She pointed out I only have *18* years not 22...whoops.

 

She is feeling down about her birthday this year, she'll be 60. She said she doesn't feel 60 which is why I brought the meme up. Not sure if it helped or not.

Ah, that may be what broke it...you possessed forbidden knowledge and had the audacity to share it!  The universe doesn't like that.

 

 

Just got this email from a customer:

Guy has been an annoying pain in my broccoli for the last four years.  He constantly wants to buy parts and get service direct from us, and keeps subtly inferring that we'll lose a valuable customer if we don't somehow accommodate him. He has even outright stated that we put him at a "deliberate economic disadvantage" by making him purchase his parts and get service from his local distributors (of which he has 3 to choose from).  He then gets annoyed when I point out that the other 100 or so customers in that region have to use the same distributors, we don't sell to them direct either, and infer that he needs explain what makes him so special. 

 

He acts like he's spent hundreds of thousands with us, when the reality is that he bought his site 4 years ago from the bank that foreclosed on the previous owner.  He hasn't upgraded any equipment since then, he's still operating with the original equipment that was installed in 2005 or so.  Surprisingly, the one ploy he hasn't pulled is "Well, I want to buy all new equipment, if you'll accommodate me."  Which I've been waiting for. I don't talk to him on the phone - I learned quickly not to - I will only talk to him via email, where I then have a record of everything he says - and he's said multiple times that he's "not interested in paying for upgrades or buying new equipment."  I plan on throwing those statements right back in his face if he tries it.

Sounds like a total jerk, and by inference and association, so is his "partner".

I'm so glad to have the forums back.

 

Called out of work for a personal day today.  Went back to catch a couple hours of sleep, and was woken up by Mrs. Strawhat telling me what time it was and declaring that we have mice.

 

I managed to perform a "trap and release," but we're still not sure how it got in the house.  I'm really hoping it was just an "explorer" that somehow found its way into the garage (and snuck in the house when the door was open).  I'm guessing it hasn't been here long, because all it needed to do was hop through a baby gate into the storage area and it would have been off scot-free instead of trapped in a plastic left-overs container.

To @kristof65 and @Cygnwulf my previous job had one of my parolee's mother cal my boss, stating "I don't like his [me] attitude!" My boss responded "I don't like his attitude either, but we're both stuck with it." He then called me and told me to keep doing my job.
