Glitterwolf
WHOOPS.... Was a little too hasty and put a ladder through the window of the inner cellar door. Called the insurance guy and apparantly I'm insured...so that's a little silver lining then. There is a canopy over the stairs and another door so it's not a really big issue, I just want it repeaired of course but nobody can enter through that door without breaking in through the outer door ( and enter my garden, get past Brutus and me... 7

I know a stained glass artist who can come up with a fancy replacement for that for you. That is if you don't mind waiting six months, and paying exorbitant shipping fees from Iowa. 1

"As the Bubble Bursts" the new soap opera of the Car Wash Industry. GEM Thanks. Venting here makes it bearable at times. I learned the scrupulous compliance thing from a Senior Chief I once had. In a positive way. He was brand new to our division, and he started heavily enforcing a really stupid rule about command ballcaps vs dixie cups (the traditional sailor's hat, for those of you who don't know) and where they could be worn that lead to about half the enlisted people having to carry two hats at all times. This went on for two weeks. We all hated him for it (and a couple other rules). He then called a division meeting, and told us that he realized there was some grumbling from us all about his enforcement of this rule. He then asked us for our frank opinions, and a bunch of us unloaded. After he let us vent, he said simply "I agree and that's why I'm enforcing it." He then explained that he now wanted our help in enforcing it when ever we saw someone from another division violating it. He told us that he was banking upon general and widespread enforcement of the rule would do more to get it changed than complaints over lax and selective enforcement. He was right - it only took three weeks of our division's overly enthusiastic enforcement to piss off the whole command, get the Chiefs all talking and get the Captain to over turn the rule that had been implemented by one of his predecessors. That lesson is one of the reasons I don't regret my decision to join the Navy, despite the fact that I really didn't like the Navy. 9

Around here, it's the smell of freshly watered sagebrush. If you've ever smelled juniper after a rainstorm it's like that, only more delicate and with a whisper of spicy. We're getting monsoonal rains moving through on a regular basis. Right now we have a slow moving storm that is putting down a very slow but steady rain so things are getting a nice soaking without any flooding. And now I'm probably going to have to have a bacon sandwich for lunch, because ~somebody~ put the idea in my head. GEM

PaganMegan
Made one of BD's favorites. Hasselback Potatoes. Just a potato, sliced thin, with a strip still holding it together on the bottom. Baked. It will hold an ENORMOUS amount of toppings, from sour cream to bacon, broccoli, and melted cheese. Today it was butter, sour cream, and fresh chopped chives She calls it a caterpillar. 8
kristof65
@PaganMegan That sounds good. I'll have to try that. Not much to vent about today, but I just heard some drama today that will likely cause me problems in the future. Site was built by/owned by parents, run by child for years. They had a falling out and now as of this week, parents are running site, child no longer involved. Not the first time this situation has happened. Most of the time I've seen it happen, one or more of the following happen: - child had all of the tech & operating knowledge, parents have no idea how to run site. - child was mismanaging parent's money, parents start looking for anyone to blame to recoup losses. - site is run down because parent's wouldn't let child spend any money. - parents start demanding help to go over books & reports with fine tooth come (but typically don't want to pay for it). Sometimes these reports no longer exist. - child still has passwords & remote log in capability, and brocolli's with the system. - parents change passwords to prevent the above, and manage to lock everyone out of the system. - parents ask for training, because they never bothered to learn anything while their child was running it. A reasonable request, but most of the time they balk at being charged for said training.

Hopefully they shared? I am now at elevation for the weekend. Will have soup and bbq sandwiches. Plan to paint a lot on the con entry. Having a nice cerveza before I start the soup.
