Meanwhile, my brain is already in vacation mode for the con. Makes working difficult.

Mine is trying to do likewise. So far, I have managed to stay on track and be productive at work.

I'm making lists and I've pushed all the right shirts to one end of the rod so I don't wear them between now and then, lol.
Can't pack the painting kit because I'm in panic paint mode right now trying to see if I can finish a second entry, lol.

Is it telling that I read that as "red shirts"?

You're like 45 minutes away if you forget something, though.  I've got to be a little more thorough.

Thou he does have to contend with Dallas/Texas traffic......

You're both right.

Even when I didn't live here, I was more of a 'pack 2 days before the trip, and doublecheck everything the day before the trip' kind of person, though.

This is what I think Grump is talking about:

@TheAuldGrump have they got the board setup a little backward? This picture is from BoardGameGeek no less, but the Rooks (?) inner ring or outer ring? I’m kinda remembering outside ring for them.

There are variants - but outer in the 2nd rank is more common, - it means that you have to do some moving to unleash the rooks.

One difference in the variant that I learned is that the inner four squars could be moved into from any of the connecting square - but normally they are ignored, or not present at all.

When the central four squares are used then the positions are reversed - because otherwise the King is exposed, so then the rooks are moved in while the King and Queen are moved out.

Looks like the BGG group is using those middle squares.

Another fun archaic Chess game comess from Poland - using dice.

1 is pawn

2 is bishop

3 is knight

4 is rook

5 is queen

6 is king

Roll 2d6 - reading them as two numbers. You can only move one pice, of the one of the coresponding numbers. If you can't move a piece it becomes the opponents turn.

Unsurprisingly, this was a gambling variant.

Chatting with my physical therapist today, and he said his wife had recently gone to a Backstreet Boys concert. I expressed surprise that they were still around, then was curious how old they are now. The answer: mid-40's to 50.

Given that they were a big part of my middle/early high school years...I'm not really sure how to feel about this.

As long as you can still rock your body, feel good about it.
