Oh, not a secret or anything. (Was just checking here before bed, thus the instant response). New Frontiers probe called Dragonfly. Supposed to put a quad-copter drone on Titan, one of Saturn's moons.

Dragonfly (spacecraft) - Wikipedia

Well, that certainly is one of the coolest projects you could get involved in today, if you have any intereest in planetology or astrochemistry. (It's probably rather interesting from an aerospace engineering pov, too.though I can't gauge that quite as well.) Fingers crossed you get the chance.

Well that was fun.

The tap for the Floor heating was leaking, unfortunately the leak originated at a less easy spot, so the water needed to be drained, tap replaced and some other new parts.

The parts weren't that expensive, 5 hours of labor is...

Well, at least it works again.

Considering Titan's average temperature of 94 K (−179 °C; −290 °F), it sure is.

Just thinking of all the technological challenges for it is mind boggling.

You have a really cool job....

Well, I hope to have a really cool job. Can never tell if they are truly interested in giving me the position or using me as filler to prove they investigated more than just their preferred candidate. But just happy I get an interview.

And I realized from a coworker’s going away party where I was just chatting about my career, that I have had a very interesting one. Trivia that are just mundane to my coworkers blow others away. Two examples, both from my early career.

1) I would take my lunch outside to eat. Normal right? Where I ate it wasn’t. I would eat just outside our building/hanger on the tarmac, leaned up against the nose wheel of an SR-71B, the two seat trainer. It was stored there and was “common”. But it was outside and one of the few shady spots.

2) Due to my job and being low man on the pole, I had the lowly and dirty task of weighing airplanes coming out of maintenance. Part of that required taking inventory of what was on that shouldn’t be and off that should be. Requires getting into the cockpit, sitting on the bare metal seat as the cushions are custom formed for each pilot, and checking that all the gauges are there. Do this in a program that sees each airplane every five years, and stick around for that long, and you will have sat in all of them. Thus, I have sat in every U2-S flying. And two that crashed.

My coworker we were saying goodbye to was floored and thought that was absolutely cool. But it’s just a Tuesday for me. Where I am now is space related. So heat shields are sitting around. The helicopter on Mars had a twin for testing. I have seen it through a window as they were building it. I keep getting applications rejected by the Mars sample return program. I have declined using Neil Armstrong’s urinal at KSC. I have been next to enough solid rocket fuel to kill me and about a hundred people around me.

But that’s just a Tuesday.

Ug. Home repairs. I do not envy you as I eyeball the drywall I need to fix.

I have a really cool job. I mean it's -18C right now and I have to spend the afternoon outside. Oh, that's not what you meant? Winter hit fast this year. Not particularly early for us but went from nice above normal temps to mid winter cold in a couple of days. Life on the prairies.

Could be doing hobby stuff but oldest has a week off from his tech institute so when not doing my few hours of work we're playing a lot of Borderlands 2 together.

Can you equip it with some lasers and rockets, just in case it encounters the Borg?

Aaannnddd Youngest tested positive for Covid.

That makes it the third time she got it in two years, I think she has had all the variants now.

She had her shots the first rounds, this time she wasn't scheduled for one yet..

Oh well...

Tell Jessie we're praying for her!

New retired dependent military ID card acquired for my wife. No plans for the rest of the day until this evening when we go out to dinner for my wife's birthday. (The birthday is actually tomorrow, but there are other things going on which mean dinner happens tonight)

Oh lovely. Just had an “episode” sitting at my cube. It’s happened before and I just got told by Google what it was.

Silent migraine with aura!

Pretty and jagged rainbow. Blind spot is annoying, tho.

yeah, I get the aura before the rest of the migraine sometimes.  Pretty freaky when it happens but it's like an early warning for me that I need to cancel my plans for tomorrow....

Happily (?), all I get is a weird Metallica album cover/shaped rainbow rotated ninety degrees counterclockwise for some time. No painful migraine follows.
