ETA: Anne assembled the wings to the body and found out that Bobby designed them to snap in place, which is not something she's seen done with Reaper models before.

Got invited to poker game by one of my managers last night. It was Texas Hold'em with a $40 buy in and the winner got $200. Except for me, everyone playing was some form of management at my workplace. And I do believe they've all watched way too much TV poker tournaments. Anyways, now I just have to decide if I want $200 worth of cheap minis or just a couple of really expensive ones. If they keep inviting me to their monthly games those guys could completely fund my miniature buying.

It's funny how simple poker looks until the broadcasters hide the hole cards for a round.

Just a suggestion but consider holding out your initial stake and as much again from anything you spend on "stuff".

If they invite you back, invest your stake in "gambling futures" by not winning two in a row as the new guy.

The "looser" is likely to get invited back and then you can do your best to keep you account book in the black then.

If you find out you are a consistently better player than the management types, don't get overeager, hold back, loose a few hands you could have won and keep your game just a bit better than the other players.

Thnx for the explanation. Never would have figured out the paired costuming otherwise. I’m just not sufficiently into to comix characters to get it.

Create a ReaperCon fund?

And maybe otherwise follow the  advice from GEM ? (I know even less about poker than I do about obscure comix characters.)

Survived day one of parental visit.  Wound up being taken out to get work boots (by my request, since mine really need replacing) and dad was all "no, you're getting ~good~ boots" Aaaaand since we see your shoes are dead we're also replacing those.  Obligatory socks were also purchased, with mom insisting I clearly needed eight pairs.

We also raided Deserres, an art store, and I now have a 9x12 Fabriano Mixed Media fat pack plus a thing of Fabriano Bristol (smooth), and four more Faber Castell Pitt markers (the four black set), plus a make your own fox kit (dad insisted on it, it's cute, so I'll make it soon).

Worst part of the day wasn't being a human GPS (aka navigator), but in all honesty it was the ribs for supper.  Ribs shouldn't need a steak knife to eat!

Worst part….?

There are people in the world who would kill to have a day only this bad.

You are complaining about being UP two pairs of shoes, 8 pairs of socks, a huge pile of art markers, and assorted other art stuff.    Plus ribs to eat.

Most of the active cold viruses today are the degenerated descendants of the Spanish Flu

???

No they are mostly other (much more benign)  kinds of RhinoViruses.

Says who? …and why should I believe this solitary(?) voice?

The Origin point of the “Spanish Influenza” is unknown as far as I have ever read.  Spain is just where it was first really noticed.

that took such a heavy toll circa 1918.  That one is part of the same family of viruses from which the most recent pandemic developed.

Uhh, No. (??)

Influenza viruses are all H1N1 viruses.  They are different from CoronaViruses.

SARS and MERS were other types of Corona viruses.

There was a whole lot more to everything involving this situation but I didn't mention most of it due to trying to keep the story short, and not wanting to have the moderation team debate if they needed to talk with me about a thing or two.  My relationship with my parents (especially my mother) is a rather complicated one, made extremely difficult by the fact they own the place we live in, and it's a constant worry every time they visit we will lose the place because...  Well, in short (and to avoid moderator schtuff) we effectively have to hide a bunch of things about us, including the fact I'm in a relationship.   It's a massive amount of stress every time they visit, and it's stress I've dealt with for three months, with the last month being the worse, and hubby was throwing up out of stress yesterday morning...

Also it was four markers, not a huge pile, but I'm happy to get to try out the 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7mm Pitt markers (and get a new brush one) in black.

The shoe shopping was frustrating in a few ways, because dad was just going "oh, he's size 13" and started grabbing random shoes that happened to be that size, and wasn't paying any attention to certain required features (waterproof breathable being a key one) or that certain colours were on my instant nope list.  He was showing many signs of just how tired he was, but wasn't really paying close attention to such.  The socks only really happened because through a few questions mom narrowed down what type of socks I typically use, and she literally went through the entire set of displays at the third Mark's we were at to find some that had the features I prefer (thicker bottom half, mesh on top, and DriWear)

As for the ribs... They were terrible.  Looked promising at first - until I saw the steak knife.  Ribs are supposed to be tender, and fall off the bone with a tiny bit of effort from your hands, not be so tough you occasionally bounce off massive chunks of fat or just grisly.  I shouldn't have to use a steak knife to separate them.  Additionally, they didn't do anything to season the meat, and the sauce they used was applied only after being cooked, and worse than that it wasn't thoroughly mixed.  One bite you could tell there was sauce but no real flavour, the next you'd get flavour.

Having just had some myself last night, I can absolutely agree with this.

My first thought when I had some was "wow, the ribs at the Tony Roma's by my house are better than this", and the two times I've eaten at that location they're always dry, and slightly chewy, but still more than edible with just your hands.

I was baffled that a place that's a decent restaurant would serve such a terrible plate of food, because ribs are so easy to do reasonably well...
