Now not sure what to think. A school that small in a large city? Wow that’s tiny! But with that good of a teacher to student ratio? That’s the ideal or so I have heard. And it’s probably within walking distance and very local. The school is probably very embedded into the neighborhood. And Denver can’t afford rural Oklahoma standards of education? Uh, wut?

Similar issues here. The school buildings are old and need major upgrades and repairs, some need to be brought into the 20th century.  Student populations have dropped. The city wants to close several locations for renovation and merge schools.  It's all very NIMBY.

Meanwhile, I hope those of you up near the Great Lakes have stocked up on milk, bread, and paint supplies.

For a second or two, I tried to figure out what the joke was for “paint”. Is there some trope where they do home improvement work while snowed in? Was it to paint the food to make it more appetizing?!

Yes, I completely forgot where we were. Mini paints, ya numskull. Guess my brain hasn’t fully engaged this morning.

Rest of the Story???

Was there a baby IN the car seat?

Was it a empty car seat?

Did you arrive before it could slide off the roof?

I was about three hundred feet away from the lady wrangling carriages in the parking lot. It was a nice summer day, so she left her infant's car carrier thingie on the roof of her car while she loaded bags into her car. Looking at the incident in hindsight, it's blatantly obvious that she was definitely having a hard day - I recall thinking about going over and asking her if she needed help with anything since she had two carriages full of stuff.

Anyway, somehow she managed to forget her kid on the roof of her car and started pulling out of the parking spot. The sound and motion of the vehicle was what caused me to briefly turn around and look in that direction, which is when I saw what was happening. I immediately took off running as fast as I could, while yelling at the top of my lungs.

I am not built for speed, and I was born with my right foot turned out ten or twelve degrees farther than my left, which makes it difficult to run at full speed for any distance without tripping. But I've shocked a lot of people who've seen me sprint short distances in circumstances of absolute necessity.

The car had gotten about a hundred feet from where it started and was starting to pick up speed when I caught up to it. That's when the lady finally heard me yelling and started to slow down - which made the carrier start to slide forward. I almost wrenched my shoulder out of the socket trying to reach over the top of the car to grab the kid without getting my foot run over, and her side mirror left a huge bruise on my side, but I did it.

Needless to say, the woman was freaked out about it. It took about ten minutes to calm her down. It took about fifteen minutes for my chest to stop feeling like I was breathing fire.

Reminds me of a story one of the dairy/milk vendors told me as he was finishing up delivering the milk load one night. Some kid asked him where does ice cream come from, his response. "Oh, they freeze the cows." with a straight face.

You will forever be someone's hero.

@Pegazus - Jeffco's doing the same thing - closing elementary schools that are too old and/or with low enrollments.  My kid's old elementary school - the one that caused all the issues that led us to move from CO to IA - has already had one school merged with it, and is probably going to have at least part of one or two others as well.  The people I know back there are telling me they are so glad their students are out of elementary, because the class sizes look like they're going to be 30-35 kids.

Moving on - I need some movie recommendations.   I need some inspiration for my Traveller game, and I want to watch a movie or two about someone who stumbled into a conspiracy or evidence of a crime by a friend, trusted co-worker, etc.   The only one I can think of off the top of my head right now is Ghost and that's not quite what I'm looking for.

I'm going with @TGP's idea that the missing mom is hiding out in a shipyard - actually, I think I'm going to make it a ship junkyard, but close enough.  Just trying to figure out what she stumbled into. Since she was some sort of financial analyst or advisor, some sort of financial crime or conspiracy makes the most sense - and I know there are some movies out there about that same sort of thing.

Sounds like you want some good old fashioned Film Noir.  Try Turner Classic Movies on Saturday Night, where host Eddie Muller does a Film Noir every week, with a rebroadcast early Sunday Morning.

[And yes, I watch a lot of old movies on TCM].

Possibly, but I need some movie titles. We don't have any traditional channels - just Netflix and Amazon prime, so everything we watch is on demand, and I'll have to search for titles.

@kristof65

Well, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, although it wasn’t well received and the “bad guy” is tossing red flags like crazy. I enjoyed it tho. Then there’s Arnold’s Total Recall that had the mutant betrayal. The 80s Flash Gordon was just one betrayal after another. Just realized I was looking at sci-fi only. Hmm.

I'll get back to you on this later today.

In a few minutes I have to go instruct our Credit Union to "knock some heads together" in their Fraud Prevention Department.
