Starting off the session I finally went back to one of my old Necrons and actually finished it.20220413_230804.thumb.jpg.94a8dcf3e70848d1657ece312badf986.jpg

This model now has a face (attached and fully painted) thanks to the bits box in my "new" local store. Having lived in the area for a couple years now (before all the craziness too) I should have found the shop sooner but I didn't. Funny enough I actually have a local place to play now but I just won't have the time.

The Angry Marines also recieved their full cleanup and a wash.

Aside from checking them tomorrow and any little touchups they may need they're done. So next session I'll be starting new models, just have to decide which batch it'll be.

I've really been struggling to get to the desk lately, which is a real shame. Their have been some fringe benefits though as I was able to finally finish reading the Judge Dredd skirmish system, get through a whole codex, and even a Killteam 2018 supplement. They weren't exactly "necessary" reads but they were books I'd put off for too long.

Tonight I may have felt a need to make up for my absence of late with some real progress. First up was finishing the bases on my latest batch of Angry Marines.20220419_200655.thumb.jpg.cf5eefae3849e55e9b90112bbc80b779.jpg20220419_200708.thumb.jpg.83bcf3a64808515ba43b04135f711ea1.jpg

This was accomplished throughout the day whenever I found a bit of free time.

Moving on to my Aggressors I actually basecoated them in yellow before I realized they were missing something. Checking the codex I couldn't find an entry for them so I decided to simply add a few chainswords. A bit of greenstuff later and they looked pretty good.

Though this of course halted the painting process it was definitely a necessary step as it added a lot of character to the miniatures.

The greenstuff also helped remind me of a couple of miniatures I'd bought awhile back. I actually found them in a bits bin for dirt cheap as someone had globbed on too much greenstuff and paint to Chaos them up. I wish I had taken a picture but unfortunately they went straight into my sonic cleaner. Grabbing them I got to work.

As I still had leftover greenstuff I attempted to add some insignia details. I'm not sure how successful I was but I figured it was worth trying.

After all of that I still had a pretty considerable blob of greenstuff leftover. Not really needing anymore sandbags or rocks I tried to make an Angry Marine face for either a vehicle or perhaps to just put somewhere on my desk.

I've been a little sidetracked the last couple days on a new project. I know with two projects sitting on the desk starting a third seems dumb but inspiration hit and I decided to follow it.

I did however add a couple details to the chainsaws before I got sidetracked. 20220420_144502.thumb.jpg.005586886d0fc4269830504c87afe3b6.jpg20220420_144542.thumb.jpg.0df36fc47971cf1dcb4a117b80e21059.jpg20220420_144556.thumb.jpg.79143a3ca1aedc91af03cf8228c1d3fd.jpg20220420_144611.thumb.jpg.dcdf9ee6064d90037a98cb31fd4655cf.jpg

I added small strips of cardstock to beef up the chainsaw's housing. I also added half a bead for detail. This doesn't look very good in the pictures but it works in person and I figure a bit of paint will do wonders. At the very least I'll be able to get better pictures without the beads reflecting.

Got back to it and managed to get most of the basecoat finished in a short session.20220503_132850.thumb.jpg.acce0bf1c468da46d593e8ecb9f0a4a6.jpg20220503_132856.thumb.jpg.494155f4cb7a30f0786dfa895352e9e4.jpg

The cables still need painted and I'd like to pick our a few more details but they're coming along. Next session I'll most likely finish that up and start getting into the freehand work.

I'm not exactly sure when the next session will be however as I'm now working on a spur of inspiration project that's ready to be painted. So I may not get back to this till after that project's completed, and to think just a handful of miniatures would finish this project giving me the chance to pursue other projects guilt free.

Though I've been pretty distracted lately with other things (and other projects) I managed to make some headway tonight. While finishing my Ork gunwagon I bounced back to this project throughout tonight's session. What started out as simply something to do while waiting for things to dry these three are nearly done now.

All that's really left before they join the others awaiting sealing is a drybrush of their bases. So final pictures are coming soon.

Like with the gunwagon the Aggressors needed some time to dry at certain stages, which led to even more progress. The greenstuff "ornament" was fully painted while the character recieved most of his basecoat.

Made some headway Saturday night but completely forgot to post it. Usually when that happens I just roll the progress together with the next night but that obviously didn't happen. I almost made it to the desk but the wife started watching Austin Powers and having not seen those films in awhile my fate was sealed.

So late (even later than usual for me) I present Saturday night's progress. I finished my Angry Marine "pin" but decided it was a little too rough. Instead of adding a clip or pin and truly finishing it I've decided to try again. Like with most things (I'm looking at you terrain) my first one is lackluster so I can figure out how to make a better one. Though it won't adorn a jacket or vest it looks pretty good on my paint rack.

The Space Marine character also recieved quite a bit of attention and is nearly finished.

All that's really left is the plasma gun and it's base.

I truly didn't expect to make it to the desk tonight as evidenced in my prior post. I was wrong though and actually had a pretty good if albeit short session. Starting off the character's plasma pistol was finished and the base recieved the rest of it's basecoat. 20220523_222749.thumb.jpg.7feed997d73fe8159c2d96b0e7a08cc5.jpg

While waiting for the base to dry I started on the remaining Necrons. Opting to start with Canoptek Plasmacyte my plan was to simply basecoat it and hopefully return to the Angry Marine. Getting into a real groove however (the first in a long time) I pushed and nearly finished it.

Aside from a few highlights and the base this one is practically finished.

If that wasn't enough I also started basecoating a Skorpekh Destroyer.

Obviously I didn't quite finish it's basecoat but it isn't grey primer anymore.

Though I made it to the desk the last couple days I didn't get around to actually posting my progress. Some nights I simply lost track of time and intended to post my progress in the morning, which obviously didn't happen. Last night however I simply kept thinking I could finish the Necrons and completely overlooked the reality of drying times. Rather than try to remember what happened each night I believe a time warp may be in order.

From barely started to finished. Oddly enough these three turned out so well I really wish I had saved them for last. Though their paintjobs are pretty simple I think they are the best Necrons I've painted so far. Hopefully the final pictures of this project will do them justice.

After a quick prime last night I went ahead and basecoated my final two miniatures tonight.

After these two it'll be sealing, flocking, painting base rims, and final pictures. What an odd project it's been.

Really liking the effect you achieved with the Necrons

The bright green is really eye catching!

Tesseract Glow is magic.

Thanks everyone but such praise doesn't feel warranted. It's really only two colors and a wash (and the wash is nearly gone so it's that slightly thicker last few drops in a bottle).

All I did was basecoat with Reaper Dungeon Slime 09415, wash with Citadel Biel-Tan Green, and edge highlight/add spots of Reaper Pure White 09039.

Though I haven't posted updates for the last couple days I did make some progress here and there. The family and I have been out on the boats so much that I probably only managed about twenty minutes painting total since last week. Tonight though I got a real session in and it was enough to finish the project. So I now present the final pictures.

Though the project is ending way earlier than expected and I never got around to some of the crazier conversions this was a lot of fun. I even managed to learn a few things along the way too. Fun, experience, and some unique models seems like a pretty good take away from a "big" project like this. It was also a nice distraction from other projects which have been languishing.
