Happy little coconut people chilling on a Iain Lovecraft fishing boat from the Treasure Island Kickstarter that I printed with them.

In my head they are singing the Pina Coloda song.

Make them stop!

Make them STOP!

Sweet, sweet karmic justice.

After my stupid success last night I successfully printed this canoe and boat overnight (with proper supports).

Then, this morning I printed some bases. Guess what failed? 😂

Fortunately the tank clean function made removing the resin from the FEP simple enough. No scratches or holes in the FEP either.

I almost had a big fail when I put the tank back on though. A small speck of debris got stuck to the underside of the FEP when I took the tank off to clean it. Fortunately I spotted it before putting the resin in and was able to remove it with no damage to the glass or FEP. I probably should buy a screen protector for my glass though, just to keep it safe in the future.

My kids had a go at painting the coconut people yesterday. From left to right is Mr 8, Ms 12, Ms 14 and my efforts. We used contrast paints to keep things simple for them.

I think this is possibly the first mini Mr 8 has painted. Ms 12 and Ms 14 have painted a few minis before, but that was probably a few years ago. I think they did really well considering the tallest of these minis is about 12mm.

I also painted a few rowboats from Dragon’s Forge Miniatures with contrast paints. From left to right, Wyldwood, Snakebite Leather and Darkoath Flesh.

Printed some more Goblins (and Trolls) for a friend. The navy grey photographs so much better. The quality of print is exactly the same as the white and grey I’ve used, but the darker colour lets you see all the details.

I also printed a holder for my GW paint pots after several near misses while trying to use my brush to get a small amount of paint out of the lid. Now watch me knock this entire thing over! 😂

Also testing out some Pokémon bases for Mr 8’s Pokémon minis. Still need to get a solid coat on the white and highlight the red in a brighter red, but the overall look of this base works well.

I like the idea of the vertical tab on the paint holder to keep its lid open. I find I can never tell with a new bottle whether the lid will stay open on its own or not.

I used it repeatedly just then and it came in really handy. I printed a heap of wood grain bases and have been doing tests of the wood colour contrast paints at full strength and a 50/50 mix with contrast medium.

No worries about knocking the pot over and I could work out of the lid.

I just got some Siraya Tech Blu Clear V2 resin. To test that out I'll be printing Walls of Fire, Walls of Ice and some elementals, then paint them with contrast paints to take advantage of their transparency.

My wash station isopropyl was looking a bit murky, so I decided to clean it before dunking clear resin minis in there. I strained the isopropyl to get any big bits of gunk out, then left it covered containers in my backyard for the sun to cure. I thought it would definitely help a bit, but I am shocked at just how much resin seems to been in there.

Who knows how much actual isopropyl I'll have left by the time I strain it out. I'm sure there is a lot of isopropyl mixed in there, but it currently looked like a giant slop of resin with a small bit of isopropyl on top.

Edit: I have 2 containers of this. The other one is just to the left, but it looks exactly the same.

I'm definitely going to start using one of these containers as a "dirty" dunk tank from now on. I'll dunk the minis in the dirty dunk tank first to remove the bulk of the excess uncured resin still on the minis, then put them in my wash station. That should help the wash station isopropyl stay cleaner for longer.

Stage 1 of attempting to save the isopropyl is done. I poured most of the stuff that was still liquid into a third container and then put all of the resin goop into one container.

The container that is liquid-y still is not what I'd call clear though. So I'm going to leave both containers in the sun again tomorrow and see where that gets me.

I expect that there was just so much resin in the isopropyl that when some of it cured, it blocked enough UV rays to stop the remaining resin in the isopropyl from curing.

So I think this is going to be a multi-stage process if I actually want to recover some of the isopropyl.

Despite looking like mostly goop, when I poured it out, there was a surprisingly large amount of isopropyl that was still liquid. Probably 1 1/2 containers worth. So I think it is partially recoverable.

This isopropyl has probably cleaned 2lt of printed resin, so the amount of uncured resin in the isopropyl has just built up.

My suspicions on the dirty isopropyl still having more uncured resin in it were completely correct. After a few hours in the sun, the container that supposedly just had cloudy isopropyl in it now looks exactly like it did yesterday, almost completely full of resin goop. Looks like trying to clean this isopropyl will take several cycles.

Super stoked with how well my printer is dialled in at the moment.

I got a couple of custom Blood Bowl STL sculpts commissioned for the tournament I run and the details on them are coming out so crisp.

In particular, the Gutter Runner has tiny spikes on the back of his gloves and every single one is printing perfectly.

Getting your exposure settings dialled in can make a big difference to your prints. After getting such good results printing the Gutter Runners, I decided to reprint some Cobblestone bases that I had printed a month ago which had bad support scarring.

This time around those bases came out almost perfect. A few bases had minor scarring, but nothing compared to last time I printed them, and most had none.

So I’d definitely recommend taking the time to get your exposure settings right.
