Glitterwolf
OPR did another crosspromo this time with Crippled God Foundry.
Olaf the Stout
Massive difference between these 2 sets of bases. You can easily see the scarring on the top set of bases as it juts out and makes the bases look oblong. That it’s printing the smallest details well, like the tiny spikes on the back of the gloves is also amazing.
Olaf the Stout
I just invented a fantastic new 3D printing technique. Using this foolproof method I can guarantee a 100% print failure rate every single time. I call this technique "forgetting to screw in your resin tank"! 🤦♂️😄☺️ Fortunately no permanent damage done. I strained the resin in the tank, checked the FEP and cleaned the build plate off, just to be sure. Reprint attempt now underway.
Olaf the Stout
Yep, the printer is all good. The 2nd attempt worked fine once I screwed the tank down. Also, how awesome is 3D printing. These are all mini trophies for a Blood Bowl tournament I'm running. Apart from the 2 brick walls, which are from Asgard Rising's Patreon, the rest are custom sculpts I commissioned. The ball was actually a regular sized football that is used in the game. Thanks to the customisation of 3D printing, I just scaled it up and glued it to a flight stand to use as the Most TD's trophy. Works great and is not something I could have done with traditional sculpting and casting. Since I've done multiple times of not re-attaching the build plate before pushing Go on my printer. I feel your pain.

I feel your pain. Do you mean forgetting to put the build plate on, so it's an empty arm moving up and down, or forgetting to tighten the screw on the build plate? Because, this was my second ever print. I forgot to tighten the screw so the build plate was just balancing on the arm the whole time. I'm so lucky it didn't fall off and shatter my screen, but it's a mistake I'll never make again.

I have started a print without the plate, it went about half an hour before I noticed the plate sitting on the arm of a chair...sigh.

I haven't managed to start a print without no build plate attached yet. Probably because my build plate is only ever screwed on to the printer or in my wash station while the prints get cleaned. As soon as the prints are washed I take the prints off and the build plate gets put back on the printer. That way I never have to worry about where I've left it. 1

Wait for the joy of when you realize that you have started the new print - before taking the old prints off the build plate... The Auld Grump - we caught it in time, but... jeez! 1

I’m assuming just a big brain fade happened, because I’m not sure how you could manage that otherwise.

The bumping/crunch noise reminded me of it.
Olaf the Stout
Ouch, hopefully no major damage caused.

Actually none, as I was just a few feet away when I heard the noise. Lesson learned on that one! Thou at first I was wondering what it doing, then realized, yah I forgot something!
Olaf the Stout
I know I’ve said it before, but it really is nice to have my printer settings dialled in. I’m printing out the custom minis and trophies I commissioned for my Blood Bowl tournament in a few weeks time and damn is every detail coming out nice and crispy. The only failures I’ve had are a few edges on the spikes of a couple of custom balls coming off, but that’s likely due to my rough support removal. Apart from that, everything looks fantastic. Plus having an initial dunk tank of isopropyl alcohol is keeping my wash station isopropyl so much cleaner for longer. Definitely something I’d recommend to others. I am smashing through the 5lt bottle of resin I bought though. Looks like another supply order may be needed soon.

Looking at the discord server for the minis I was trying to print, several other people are having the same problem. Basically the supports are just too thin, so I think it’s more a model support problem than my printer being the issue.
