My new printer isn't going to know what hit it. I've still got another week to wait before it arrives, so I've put together some build plates to print in the meantime.

I'm now up to 16 full build plates, which is a lot considering the Saturn 2 build plate is double the size of the Mars 3 build plate.

We know that exact feeling....

Did you do the same waiting for your Saturn 2?

I'm up to 22 build plates now. I'm going to start with some calibration tests, then go with a few of the shorter build plates first, just to make sure it's printing and adhering nicely before I bust out the 7 hour red dragon build plates.

At least I'm going in with some experience this time. With my Mars 3 it was all a brand new and such a massive learning curve.

Yep, mostly the big models that wouldn't fit on the smaller machine, with smaller models added to fill the plate.

Yeah, it was only since I ordered the Saturn 2 that I seriously considered printing a really big dragon (and even then it's still taking up 2 build plates).

The majority of what I've set up to print for now is smaller stuff, but it's awesome to fit double the amount of models on each build plate (but know I can print really big STLs if I want to).

First calibration print of the Amerilabs Town was a success with good build plate adhesion. That was at 3 seconds exposure. Doing it again with 3.2 seconds exposure  now and will follow it up with a 2.8 seconds exposure to see what gives the best results.

Provided all goes well, I’ll run a full build plate of Blood Bowl minis tomorrow morning. If that works, it will be red dragon time!

Also, happily, my Saturn 2 build plate sits nicely in my wash unit, despite the slightly bigger build plate compared to the Saturn.

So I think the top of my wash unit may have widened a little as it’s not meant to fit (and occasionally my Mars 3 plate would fall down and in to the bottom of the wash unit if I wasn’t careful.

Not sure if the build plate is meant to fit sideways too, but I’m taking advantage of it.

Pretty sure this a cleaning/drip function for the printer.

The test print looks funny on that build plate. 😆

Print successfully cleaned, removed and desupported without accidentally breaking anything. Great success.

Had a bit of a play around with the joins once I’d cured it too. They slot in well. Room to play with positioning, so not too tight, but without being too loose either. Just need to figure out the best positions, but that will be easier to see once I’ve printed the base.

I was tempted to print the base and tail overnight, but I’ll play it smart and do that tomorrow night when I get home from work, just so it’s a bit warmer.
