Welcome to Getting to Know You, January 2022 Edition.

RULES

1. Every weekday a question will be posted. (but see rule 7 re: weekends).

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer the question of the day before the next question is posted.

(But this is a frequently ignored rule; no one will delete your post if you have some catching up to do.)

3. Questions are going to be posted in a ten hour span: as early as 1 Minute after Midnite or as late as 10AM (Central Time Zone, U.S. ) i.e:

Midnite to 10AM Denton, TX time.

~Or~

6AM to 1600 Dover, UK time.

3a. Who am I kidding? It is really turning out to be as late as Noon Denton, time ~or~ 17:59 Dover, time.

4. For other quisitors: Should I fail to post a question please wait until after the 10 hour window to post a backstop question.

5. Anyone is encouraged to suggest future questions. Please send a PM to the current or any previous Quisitor.

6. You do not have to answer every question to play. If a question feels like TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question or give a terse, concise mysterious answer.

7. Weekend questions may be formatted as two or three day quest/projects, or multi-part related questions, posted on Fridays or Saturdays.

When someone makes a really idiotic statement, do you:

A: Stare blankly at them

B: Do a facepalm

C : Give them a sarcastic answer?

Either (A) and be silent about it, or (C) the sarcastic answer.

It really depends on the statement, how well I know this person, and if it's worth the effort. If there's one thing I've learned about the Internet comment sections, it that it's often best to simply not engage.

It's highly situational. In the past it would have been the highly sarcastic response, but I've got better control now.  If it's an employer or some kind of official I tend to go with the blank look rather than say the wrong thing.

Probably miss-attributed but:

Any of the above, depending on context.

And as with what @Cranky Dog said, with internet conversations it's better to just not engage.

Definitely A.

Anything else just tends to lead to too much hassle in the end.

Usually C, Except when they were senior management. (Which was often the case...)

Ummm, yes?

Really depends on the situation and who it is.
Luckily now 99% of my interactions are via a computer so A doesn't come up much as my camera is always off.
Thankfully there IS a facepalm emoji in Teams, but it usually get's sent to a separate chat of just a few teammates.

And C is usually done, but only after checking that mute IS on. Much better for job retention......

This is highly situational; Is it online or in person? How well do I know the person? Are they a veteran? (This one really matters; most vets have thicker skins and darker senses of humor)

Do I think it was a simple mistake? How long have I known the person?

All of that gets factored together quickly before I reply in any fashion.
When I do reply it is generally either:

A) Make statements/ask questions in such a a manner as to allow them a graceful way out

B) Ignore and attempt to change topic

C) Set (sarcasm) blasters to kill

If it's genuine ignorance, then I gently try to correct them. If it's the person actually trying to be a @&@%*%$, then I happily cast Circle of Sarcasm.

It really depends on who it is, but it's usually a "Yeah.....okay", so possibly 'C' I guess?
