When someone makes a really idiotic statement, do you:

A: Stare blankly at them

B: Do a facepalm

C : Give them a sarcastic answer?

Generally A. I spent way to much of my life dealing with some really dense and oblivious relatives. I say my head is tired of being beaten against a brick wall. I'm tired of drama and conflict so unless people are actively getting in my face I tend to just ignore them. There are a few people I like and care enough about that I will either laugh at or try to correct if the situation warrants. There's an even smaller group that will get the full force of my scorn and derision if they open their mouths. Even for a person like me sometimes it's just not possible to ignore the stupidity.

Usually a, mixed with a bit of a head tilt and/or raised eyebrow.

I usually avoid eye contact. Occasionally I will mutter something about bovine excrement.

Oh I wish I could do the raised eyebrow. That is SO cool & expressive!

Over the years I learned an important lesson - choose your battles AKA Is it worth it?

As mentioned by others it really depends on the person, the situation and the topic.

If I consider it not worth it, I will probably either ignore, stare a little or wait to see how deep one falls into the rabbit hole.

If I do consider it worth it and I like you I will be gentle and try to correct the person in a friendly way.

If you're someone I don't like the answer will not just be sarcastic but devastating...

If you're someone I really hate or the statement is really offensive prepare to be smacked around the head for being stupid ( or for just being there...)

Depends on context. If it's on the internet just ignore or say thanks and disengage, Which is kind of like the online equivalent of A I suppose. But if it's in real life I just try and remember that none of us have gone through life without saying stupid stuff and then attempt to gently correct them. Where it goes from there depends on the situation.

I'm hard of hearing, so it's usually "Sorry?" Did I hear that right?

Our Mr. Fix It guy at work was fixing a pump for me, and our trucker, Glen, was moving some tires around in the other room. I gave him a flashlight to help him read the info on the tire walls. Our repairman said to me, "Go turn that on." I protested loudly, "But I like Glen!" He was like, "What?" I thought he said, "Don't help Glen." We all laughed.

In the ultimate expression of Englishness, the British caption sarcasm. It looks like this: words (!)

A friend of mine in college was speeding home one day and got pulled over after passing the local sheriff.  The old guy walked up to his window and asked "Boy, are you dumb or just stupid?"  I feel this is often an appropriate response to such statements.

(For the record, his answer was "Yes sir.")

Depends who it is and circumstances, normally A, sometimes C, B is reserved for sending gifs in teams to two of my colleagues when others decide they don't have a functioning brain

Sorry I'm late, back has me on some good meds.

Have you been hit by the heavy snow across North America? And if not, here, what's the temperature where you are?

I have not.

It IS almost cold enough for snow (36 degrees), but we have nice, clear, sunny skies.

Here in northern NSW, Australia, it's about 25 degrees Celsius with patchy rain.  Where I'm heading to tomorrow, sunny and 35 Celsius

We got about 15 inches of snow last week. Current temperature is -16 C, the entire week before this we were in a deep freeze of at least -30 C.

It skimmed by us the other night and left us with about 1" and a temp of 4F (-15C) this morning.  It's now a toasty 18F (-7C) as the sun is setting.  Tomorrow is supposed to be above freezing and I hope my car melts before I take the cat for her allergy shot.

Hope your back feels better soon.
