ManvsMini
I do believe it is time for answers. Question 73: Wanting to help people, van Gogh left art to become what in 1876? Answer: Spoiler A priest/pastor. He left working at an art firm, worked as a schoolmaster at a private school and was allowed to preach before eventually studying and becoming a pastor for a poor mining community in Belgium, though the whole endeavor only lasted a few years before returning to art. (brief history summarized from the Vincent van Gogh Museum.) Question 74: What physical constant did Henry Cavendish measure? Answer: Spoiler The gravitational constant. He calculated it out to within 1% of its modern accepted value in 1798. In Newton's Laws, it's used to determine the gravitational force between two masses. Question 75: Deepest spot in the world? Answer: Spoiler The Mariana Trench, or more specifically Challenger Deep which is within the Trench. Located in the Western Pacific Ocean. Roughly 6.8 miles (~11 km) deep. Question 76: Natural disaster contributing to the downfall of Minoan civilization? Answer: Spoiler Volcanic eruption. While it didn't result in the immediate destruction of Crete's population like in Pompeii, it is believed the eruption may have caused issues that over time led to its downfall (volcanic ash vs crop growth, possibly causing the evidence of tsunamis, etc). Question 77: Yokozuna is the highest rank in what sport? Answer: Spoiler Sumo/sumo wrestling. Though the rank is recognized as "grand champion", the translation of "horizontal rope" or "wide rope" comes from the symbolic rope worn about the waist prior to competition. Question 78: Peleus and Thetis were the parents of what famed warrior? Answer: Spoiler Achilles. Famed warrior from The Iliad. Question 79: What was added to the calendar on Dec. 31, 1990? Answer: Spoiler A leap second. It is occasionally applied to Coordinated Univerisal Time (UTC) that we use to run our clocks to reconcile differences between atomic clocks and observed solar time (which varies due to irregularities and slowdowns in the Earth's rotation). Another seven question for one point each. Total thus far for is now 82 points possible.
