What would Margaret Landon be an answer to?

Ah that would from Margaret Landon's novel: "Anna and the King of Siam" (which brought the musical "The King and I") as the alternate answer to the Khmer Empire.

Different countries, but at one time both from the same former empire.

I would rule Siam as not an alternate answer to the question, and my reasoning for this lies in how historians use the name. When referring to Thailand, Siam is what historians use to denote it (also technically denoted as a kingdom, not an empire and the question did specify empire), whereas the Khmer Empire is exclusively used to denote historical Cambodia.

@ttuckerman I will allow Angkorian Empire as that name has also been used.
